(PRESS RELEASE) Dublin, Ireland, 2025-Feb-1 — /Travel PR News/ — Aer Lingus has announced the reopening of its prestigious Future Pilot Programme, offering aspiring aviators a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to become a fully qualified pilot with the airline. Beginning today, Aer Lingus invites applications for its 14-month, fully-sponsored pilot training course, which will kick off in September 2025. Aspiring pilots have until February 10, 2025, to apply online and take the first step toward a career in aviation.

The Future Pilot Programme is part of Aer Lingus’ broader strategy to recruit and develop 90 pilots over the next five years. With a strong emphasis on inclusivity, the airline is actively encouraging women to apply, as it strives to further enhance gender diversity in the cockpit. Currently, 11% of Aer Lingus pilots are women, a figure that sets the airline apart within the industry, yet Aer Lingus aims to significantly increase this proportion in the coming years.

Fostering Diversity and Supporting Female Aspirants

Aer Lingus Chief People Officer, Anne Kiely, highlighted the airline’s commitment to diversity and inclusivity. “We’ve been providing world-class pilot training for nearly six decades, and this programme is a unique opportunity for those passionate about aviation to join a global airline with a rich history. As we continue to evolve, we invite people from all walks of life to apply, with a particular focus on encouraging female candidates. We are eager to see more women in the cockpit, and this programme is an important step in narrowing the gender gap in aviation.”

An Exclusive Training Opportunity

Successful applicants will embark on a comprehensive training journey, beginning in September 2025. They will first undergo a 14-month training course at a renowned international pilot academy, combining theoretical studies with hands-on practical experience. Afterward, trainees will return to Aer Lingus’ state-of-the-art Training Academy in Dublin, where they will receive continued guidance and mentoring from the airline’s dedicated Liaison Pilot.

Upon completion of the programme, trainees will be awarded a Multi-crew Pilot’s Commercial Licence, qualifying them to take on First Officer roles and eventually progress to Captain positions on both short and long-haul flights for Aer Lingus.

State-of-the-Art Fleet and Industry Leadership

The newly qualified pilots will have the opportunity to operate some of the most advanced and sustainable aircraft in the world. Aer Lingus has recently added the Airbus A321 XLR to its fleet, which offers remarkable advancements in fuel efficiency, reducing CO2 emissions by up to 20% and cutting noise by nearly 50% compared to older aircraft models.

Captain Karl O’Neill, Aer Lingus’ Chief Instructor, said, “This programme is a gateway for those eager to pursue a fulfilling career in aviation. We are looking for candidates who are not only technically skilled but who excel in communication, problem-solving, and teamwork. We encourage women to bring their unique talents and perspectives to the programme, as we continue to diversify the skies. Our pilots come from a wide range of backgrounds, and each of them has thrived in this rewarding career. We are excited to welcome the next generation of aviation professionals.”
