Advocacy, collaboration to be discussed at Governor’s Conference on Tourism Dec. 4-5

CARSON CITY, Nev. — 2012-10-23 — /travelprnews.com/ — Tourism professionals will gather to discuss industry advocacy, international visitation and collaboration at the Nevada Governor’s Conference on Tourism, Dec. 4-5 at John Ascuaga’s Nugget in Sparks.

Keynote speakers are Roger Dow, president and CEO of the U.S. Travel Association, and Terry Jones, founder of Travelocity.com and current chairman of Kayak.com. Dow, who enjoyed a 34-year career at Marriott International before joining U.S. Travel, was instrumental in creating the Travel Promotion Act of 2010, which led to the creation of Brand USA, the nation’s first global marketing effort to promote the United States as a premier travel destination. Jones entered the travel industry in 1971 as a travel agent and went on to create Travelocity, the first website to allow consumers to arrange travel without an agent.

The conference, an annual event sponsored by the Nevada Commission on Tourism, is where industry leaders share ideas and collaborate on efforts to strengthen tourism, Nevada’s primary economic engine. This year’s theme is igniting innovation — spurring discussion of new ideas and innovative tactics that will build on the past year’s successes.

A session on Brand USA partnerships and a mayoral roundtable are on the agenda, as well as and interactive discussions on technology, special events, international visitors and more.
