- Chengdu’s scheduled international air seat capacity – both inbound and outbound – has increased remarkably with annual growth rate of 40 percent per annum during 2009 and 2012.
- Both Inbound and outbound seats are expected to rise to 1.8 million at the end of 2013.
- In terms of seat volume, Hong Kong SAR was the largest destination with an annual growth of 23% during 2009 and 2012.
- Chinese Taipei, Korea (ROK), and Thailand also showed exceptional annual growth of 54%, 53%, and 49% respectively during 2009 and 2012.
- In 2013, new seat capacity is expected from Europe including Germany and UK.
- Air China will start flights to Frankfurt, Germany with a total of 23,000 seats in 2013 while British Airways will also start flight between London and Chengdu with some 9,600 seats.
- Many long haul flights from Chengdu began operations in 2011. Sichuan Airlines started operating flights between Northern Marianas in 2011 and Canada in 2012. In 2013, the Airline will start operating flights to Melbourne, Australia (some 28,000 seats).
- Hong Kong Airlines started to operate with around 9,000 air seats in 2011 and seats are expected to reach 55,000 in 2013.
- China Eastern Airlines opened route to Jeju, Korea (ROK) in 2010 with only 850 seats. Seats capacity rose to 65,000 in 2012 and expected to stand at 58,000 at the end of 2013.
- EVA Air started operating flights between Taipei and Chengdu adding over 20,000 seats in 2011 and expected to reach 25,000 in 2013.
- Thai Airways has almost doubled its seats capacity between Bangkok and Chengdu from 41,000 seats in 2009 to 81,000 seats in 2013.
