2013-05-14 — /travelprnews.com/ — New flights to Hannover, Munich launched and Frankfurt frequency increased bmi regional also adds Milan Malpensa service

The number of routes served by bmi regional from Bristol has swelled to six, just months after the launch of the airline’s inaugural flight from the Airport.

Daily services to Hannover, Munich and Milan took off today (Monday 13 May), while frequency on the recently established Frankfurt route increased from one to two flights a day – making it even more attractive for business travellers. The new destinations follow the launch of a double-daily service to Aberdeen last October, and the introduction of a daily flight to Hamburg in April. bmi regional also operates corporate shuttle services from Bristol Airport for Airbus to its sites in Toulouse and Chester.

To celebrate the addition of four German cities to the route network, the check in area at Bristol Airport has been transformed into a traditional German market for two days (13-14 May), with passengers and local residents invited to drop in to find out more about each of the new destinations. Each stand is packed with information for potential visitors, as well as a host of freebies for the kids!

The Airport also welcomed VIP guests from Hannover, as the city’s Mayor, Frau Regine Kramarek, flew in with a delegation representing the renewable energy sector. The group were met by Bristol’s Lord Mayor, Councillor Peter Main, and the Chairman of North Somerset Council, Alan McMurray, before travelling to the city centre for a programme of meetings with members of the business community and representatives of the Bristol-Hannover Twinning Association.

Alongside the new German routes, bmi regional also launched a service to Milan Malpensa. The flight is expected to prove popular with leisure passengers, as well as providing a convenient link for businesses in the region, particularly those in the aerospace sector which has a strong presence in the Italian city.

Shaun Browne, Aviation Director at Bristol Airport, said:
“It is exciting to see these high profile destinations served once again from Bristol Airport. Each city has much to offer both business and leisure passengers, and the new routes represent a great opportunity for the local tourism economy to tap into new overseas markets. The visit of the delegation from Hannover demonstrates the positive role direct flights can play in fostering business and cultural links between cities.”

Cathal O’Connell CEO of bmi regional commented: “bmi regional is delighted to launch these new routes from Bristol Airport today. Bristol is a great hub for our airline, allowing us to service some of Europe’s most exciting business and leisure destinations. Furthermore with such a strong network, bmi regional has created 35 jobs in Bristol, not to mention the additional jobs that will be created indirectly as a result of bringing new visitors to the Bristol and the South-West. The launch has also heralded new partnerships between business leaders from Bristol and the cities of Hannover, Milan and Munich, cementing bmi regional’s position as a perfect choice for business travellers flying between Europe and the UK.”

“Today’s launches compliment bmi regional’s existing Frankfurt and Hamburg routes out of Bristol which commenced earlier this year. We hope to build on these links and look forward to delivering our award winning service to passengers between Bristol and Europe for many years to come.”

Mark Stewart, General Manager and Human Resources Director at Airbus, said:
“These new services will be welcomed by our employees especially the direct route to Munich which will give us much better access to our colleagues in EADS. Coming on top of the recently announced new route from Bristol to Hamburg it will certainly help reduce travel time and increase business efficiency allowing our employees to reach their destination quicker, whilst continuing to support our local airport.”

bmi regional operates an all jet fleet. Complimentary food and drinks are served onboard, and passengers receive a free 20kg hold baggage allowance.
