(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 2025-Apr-25 — /Travel PR News/ — Wyndham Hotels & Resorts Expands Super 8® Brand to Spain and Portugal Through Exclusive Development Agreement with Soliteight Hotel Projects

Wyndham Hotels & Resorts, the world’s largest hotel franchising company with 25 global brands and approximately 9,300 hotels, has entered into an exclusive development agreement with Soliteight Hotel Projects SA to introduce its renowned Super 8® brand to Spain and Portugal. Under the agreement, Soliteight, an established hotel development and investment firm, will open 40 Super 8 hotels over the next decade, fulfilling a significant demand for affordable and high-quality accommodations in the region.

Super 8, a globally recognized economy brand known for its reliability, value, and hospitality, will meet the growing needs of budget-conscious travelers in Spain and Portugal. This strategic initiative comes at a time when both countries are experiencing remarkable growth in tourism, alongside increasing demand for dependable economy lodging. Wyndham currently operates 14 Super 8 hotels in the EMEA region, including locations in Germany, the UK, and Saudi Arabia.

The first Super 8 hotel is set to open in Leiria, Portugal in the fourth quarter of 2027, with additional properties planned for Tier 1 and Tier 2 cities, including prime locations near airports, retail districts, and popular transport routes. Many of these hotels will be newly constructed with smart, modular designs focused on efficiency and sustainability, maintaining the Super 8 brand’s strong commitment to quality.

“Introducing Super 8 to Spain and Portugal aligns perfectly with our strategy to make quality, affordable travel more accessible,” said Dimitris Manikis, President of EMEA at Wyndham Hotels & Resorts. “Southern Europe has an increasing demand for reliable, budget-friendly accommodations, and our partnership with Soliteight helps us meet that demand. We are excited to bring Super 8’s signature blend of value, modern comfort, and sustainability to these dynamic markets.”

Addressing Market Demand

The launch of Super 8 by Wyndham in Spain and Portugal is driven by the booming tourism sector and evolving travel preferences. Spain welcomed a record 94 million international visitors in 2024, while Portugal also saw significant growth in tourism. Spain’s economic strength, with a 3.2% GDP increase in the same year, is boosting domestic and business travel, particularly in secondary cities and emerging markets. As travelers seek alternatives to basic budget accommodations and rising mid-range hotel prices, Super 8 by Wyndham is ideally positioned to fill this gap, offering reliable, affordable lodging without compromising quality.

Rui Alpalhão, Chief Executive of Soliteight, commented, “Spain and Portugal have been lagging behind other European markets in terms of branded economy hotels, with a 10% gap in budget brand penetration despite a 142% increase in RevPAR since 2019. We are proud to partner with Wyndham to develop Super 8 in Iberia and address the growing need for well-branded, economy hotels that deliver consistency and value for both domestic and international travelers.”
