(PRESS RELEASE) KATOWICE, Poland, 2026-Feb-9 — /Travel PR News/ — Wizz Air has announced the introduction of a new direct connection between Katowice and Dubrovnik, Croatia, further expanding its leisure-focused network from southern Poland ahead of the 2026 summer season. The twice-weekly service, operating on Thursdays and Sundays from 23 July 2026, forms part of the airline’s most extensive summer programme ever from Katowice Airport and reinforces its position as the leading carrier in the region.
The route launch comes alongside a broader capacity expansion in Katowice, where Wizz Air will base eight aircraft this summer – six Airbus A321neo and two Airbus A320ceo – delivering the highest seat availability the airline has ever offered from the airport. The expanded fleet deployment is designed to provide passengers with greater flexibility, more travel options, and improved connectivity to popular holiday destinations across Europe.
Dubrovnik, one of the Adriatic’s most celebrated coastal cities, will now be directly accessible from Katowice, offering travellers a convenient gateway to both beach getaways and cultural city breaks. Passengers will be able to explore the historic old town, scenic coastline, and local gastronomy without the need for connecting flights, making the route particularly attractive for leisure travel.
The new service aligns with Wizz Air’s Customer First Compass programme, which prioritises affordable fares, operational reliability, and an enhanced travel experience. The airline continues to position itself as a leading provider of low-cost leisure travel from Poland, responding to strong demand from passengers in Silesia and neighbouring regions.
In addition to Dubrovnik, Wizz Air is progressively rolling out a range of new and expanded routes from Katowice for Summer 2026, including services to Brindisi, Billund, Faro, Brasov, Maastricht, Ohrid, Porto, Rijeka, Rimini, Lamezia Terme, and Varna. These additions reflect the airline’s strategic focus on strengthening its holiday network from southern Poland.
Wizz Air has operated from Katowice since 2004, when the airport became its first base and a cornerstone of its growth in Poland. Over the years, the airline has played a key role in expanding affordable air connectivity from the Silesian region, supporting both inbound and outbound tourism as well as regional economic development.
Salvatore Gabriele Imperiale, Corporate Communications Manager at Wizz Air, described the Dubrovnik route as an exciting addition to the airline’s summer schedule. He highlighted that the expanded programme from Katowice includes more routes, higher frequencies, and increased capacity, supported by the deployment of eight aircraft at the base. He emphasised that the airline remains committed to offering customers greater choice, flexibility, and value for money.
Alongside the new Dubrovnik service, Wizz Air is also increasing frequencies on several popular routes from Katowice during the peak summer period. These enhancements are intended to better accommodate demand for weekend trips, longer holidays, and family travel.
Currently, Wizz Air operates 36 routes to 20 countries from Katowice and holds the largest market share at the airport. In 2025, the airline operated more than 10,000 flights from Katowice and carried over 7.5 million booked passengers, while also improving its on-time performance by 7.6 percent year-on-year.
