Voting is now open for Visit Indiana’s 2020 Best of Indiana people’s choice campaign

INDIANAPOLIS, IN, 2020-Sep-03 — /Travel PR News/ — Voting is open for Visit Indiana’s 2020 Best of Indiana people’s choice campaign, which this year will coincide with The 20 IN 20. Voters can select their favorite Lakes, Donut Shops and Unique Sleeps around the state. There are 20 places to choose from in each category, announced today  (September 2, 2020) in the latest The 20 IN 20 lists.

“This year’s categories allow travelers to explore our beautiful waterways, grab a sweet treat or find a unique place to get away in our great state,” said Lt. Governor Suzanne Crouch.

Lakes

Feel the sand between your toes, jump in the waves or hike Indiana’s Lake Michigan shoreline. The beaches, trails and sand dunes of this area are part of the Indiana Dunes National Park and Indiana Dunes State Park.

You’ll find marinas to launch your boat in Michigan City and Hammond. Don’t have a boat? There are charter boats available to take your group on fishing and boating excursions.

In Eastern Indiana, Brookville Lake is home to two State Recreation Areas (SRA): Mounds SRA and Quakertown SRA. The lake property has more than 25 miles of hiking trails, boating opportunities, and nationally known recreational and sport fishing. Two beaches and more than 400 campsites make this an ideal spot.

Donut Shops

For a sweet morning treat, check out donut shops across the state.

Rise’n Roll Bakery & Deli is an Amish run bakery specializing in preservative-free foods. Rise’n Roll’s history began in 2001 in Shipshewana, Indiana. A young Amish couple began baking recipes handed down in the woman’s family for generations. They sold baked goods from their front porch. They now have several locations and are known for their cinnamon caramel donut.

Long’s Bakery has been baking donuts from scratch since 1955. This cash-only Indianapolis institution has been serving up various treats, including donuts, danishes & cakes. People have driven miles to satisfy their cravings and is a hot spot during race weekends at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Unique Sleeps

Where else but in Indiana can visitors hole up for the night in a silo, a tipi, a castle, a yurt or a former jail cell?

In Rockville, the Old Jail Inn offers “cell-block rooms” in the building that housed the Parke County Sheriff’s office and jail from 1879 to 1998.

For a unique and memorable on-the-water experience, rent one of Indiana’s first floating cabins. All cabins at Patoka Lake Marina are fully furnished, including linens and towels.

Nearby, Patoka Lake Winery Silo Suites in Birdseye proposes a pair of two-story accommodations decked out with king beds, kitchenettes, flat-screen TVs and jacuzzi tubs, all housed in a grain silo.

“One of the best things about voting in this campaign is you get to learn about incredible locations you might not have known about,” said Misty Weisenstiner, Director of Visit Indiana. “VisitIndiana.com/Fall is a companion site to VisitIndiana.com, where you can find many outdoor fall adventures and vote for the Best of Indiana.”
