2013-09-05 — /travelprnews.com/ — FirstGroup, the leading transport operator in the UK and North America, today confirmed that it has strengthened its relationship with former Open Champion and Ryder Cup veteran, Paul Lawrie, by sponsoring four of the north east’s most promising young professionals, all of whom have emerged from Paul Lawrie’s Junior Golf Foundation.
Aberdeen based FirstGroup already sponsor Paul Lawrie and this year David Law, Kris Nicol, Philip Mclean and Jordan Finlay all carry the FirstGroup brand.
Talking about the partnership FirstGroup’s Company Secretary Paul Lewis said: “Paul Lawrie’s Junior Golf Foundation is a fantastic example of encouraging young people to engage in sport. We are delighted to be a part of it and delighted to be supporting four of the north east’s most promising professional golfers.”
Meanwhile, Paul Lawrie said: “The support the foundation and I have received over the years from First has been exceptional. I’m thrilled that the company has chosen to strengthen the relationship with the sponsorship of Kris, Philip, Jordan and David. It’s a big boost to their confidence and can only help them achieve their potential – all four are capable of big things in golf.”
David Law spoke about the sponsorship: “I’m delighted that a company of the size, scale and reputation of FirstGroup is prepared to support me. It has given me a real lift and I hope I can repay First’s faith in me.”
About the four Golfers:
David Law became a professional golfer in October of 2011 after a succession of wins and titles including the Scottish Men’s Amateur and The Northern Open Championship. The Aberdeenshire golfer went on to win the Open Dar Es Salam on the Pro Golf Tour in 2012 and the Sueno Dunes Classic in 2013.
Kris Nicol turned professional in 2011 following a successful amateur career where he narrowly missed selection for the Walker Cup. Kris has gone on to compete in numerous competitions and more recently the Open International De la Mirabelle D’or in France.
Philip Mclean has been a member of the Paul Lawrie Foundation since 2006. Mclean turned professional in November 2011 after becoming a Sliver medalist at the St. Andrews links in 2010 and second in the Scottish Order of Merit.
25 year old Jordan Finlay turned professional in 2011 and plays in the Euro Pro Tour (as seen on Sky Sports). Previously Jordan has won the Scottish Alliance Championship in 2010 and became the Daily Telegraph’s Junior Champion.
