DALLAS, 2016-Nov-28 — /Travel PR News/ — Southwest Airlines® (NYSE: LUV) and the Downtown Denver Partnership are pleased to welcome Mile High residents, employees and visitors to take a spin on the ice at the Southwest Rink at Skyline Park. The rink opened today (November 22 2016) with Denver City Councilman Albus Brooks, Downtown Denver Partnership President and CEO Tami Door, Partnership Board Chair Walter Isenberg, and Southwest Airlines Senior Vice President of Network and Revenue Andrew Watterson.
To celebrate the seventh anniversary of the Southwest Rink at Skyline Park, Southwest invited the Denver community to come and chill at the rink for some complimentary icy treats, live music, and a whole lot of fun! To kick-off the festivities, Southwest recognized a particularly special guest, Make a Wish® kid, Bodhi. Bodhi was welcomed to be among the first skaters of the year to take a spin on the ice. Attendees were welcomed with ice cream provided by Denver’s own Little Man Ice Cream and buy-one-get-one free coupons provided by Chipotle. Guests were given an opportunity to enter for the chance to win a $100 Southwest gift card and encouraged to lace up their skates, head out on to the ice, and enjoy musical performances by artists Zach Heckendorf and Brendan James. Southwest was proud to help bring their music to the Denver community.
“At Southwest, we’re passionate about making meaningful connections with our Customers by taking part in some of the most important moments in their lives,” said Andrew Watterson, Senior Vice President of Network and Revenue for Southwest Airlines. “We’re honored to partner with the Downtown Denver Partnership, providing Mile High residents with a gathering space in the heart of the city to enjoy and celebrate these moments at the Southwest Rink with friends and family.”
“The Downtown Denver Partnership champions efforts year-round to bring unique events and programs to our parks and public spaces, and we thank Southwest Airlines for making the Southwest Rink possible for a seventh year, and for their continued investment in our center city,” said Downtown Denver Partnership’s CEO & President Tami Door.
Last year, the Rink welcomed 56,172 visitors to take to the ice and enjoy the festivities. After six seasons of the Southwest Rink, more than 268,702 skaters have taken a spin on the rink, and a record number of skaters are expected in the seventh season, which will run through Feb. 14, 2017.
The Rink is located in Downtown Denver in Skyline Park next to the historic Daniels & Fisher Tower and near the intersection of 16th and Arapahoe streets. Skating will once again be FREE to the public with the option to bring skates or rent a pair for just $2. To bring some extra cheer to families visiting the Downtown Denver area this holiday season, the Rink will be open on Thanksgiving Day from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, hours, and programming, visit southwestrink.com.
The Rink is made possible by a public-private partnership among the City of Denver Parks and Recreation Department, the Downtown Denver Partnership, and Southwest Airlines.
