The business idea “air interrail” across Europe won the TAP and Startup Lisboa competition

LISBOA, 2015-6-5 — /Travel PR News/ — The winning design in the business ideas competition launched by TAP in partnership with Startup Lisboa is called Waynabox and offers ‘air interrail’ across Europe.

Waynabox is a website that sells travel experiences for a fixed price (150 euros), including two nights’ accommodation and flight. The catch is that the destination is not up to the traveller, who only finds out 48 hours beforehand which European city they will be spending the next few days in.

This was one of several ideas that made it to the final. The other finalists, with projects in areas ranging from maintenance to in-flight service engineering, were also studied with great interest by TAP.

As well as Startup Lisboa, TAP was also grateful for the support of a number of partner companies in this initiative who are equally as committed to innovation: Google, Microsoft, ANA Aeroportos, Airbus, Sage, Fidelidade, Faber Ventures and The Edge Group.

With arms wide open

TAP is the leading Portuguese airline, it has been flying since 1945 and has been a member of the Star Alliance since 14 March 2005. Its Lisbon hub is a key European gateway at the crossroads of Africa, and North and South America.

TAP is the number one airline between Europe and Brazil, and in the summer of 2014 its network had grown to fly 11 new routes. Currently the Portuguese airline has connections to 84 destinations in 35 countries. It operates an average of around 2500 flights a week and has a fleet of 77 modern aircraft: 61 Airbuses, and another 16 aircraft in the colours of PGA (Portugália Airlines).

The company’s Portuguese character, brand and the quality of service as a basic concept have been the main factors driving TAP’s strategy over recent years, and which have been justified by the many awards that have won from national and international bodies.
