Lisbon, Portugal, 2017-Aug-28 — /Travel PR News/ — The national airline today (2017-08-21) makes its third trip back in time, this time to the iconic “Magic City”
The TAP A330 retrojet, named “Portugal”, today makes its third trip in 1970s style, between Lisbon and Miami, USA. The flavours of the Algarve will also be present on this flight to a vintage destination par excellence. The cuisine will be presented by the Michelin star winning chef Rui Silvestre, who will also be on board to participate in this retro experience.
Miles of beach in a tropical climate, combined with art deco on avenues full of glamour. This is Miami, one of the TAP destinations that is best associated with the retrojet project. In this project of the airline, its passengers are invited to travel in time, with the elegance that characterised civil aviation of the 1970s. As was the case with previous retro flights – between Lisbon and Toronto, and between Porto and São Paulo – TAP recreated the atmosphere of the 1970s, from the check-in desks to the inflight entertainment. Passengers on this flight were offered retro bag tags and boarding pass card wallets on arrival at the airport, as well as a time-traveller’s diploma. On board, customers were greeted by a crew wearing one of the most emblematic TAP uniforms, created by the French fashion designer Louis Féraud. They also had another surprise when seated. All passengers were offered the iconic 1970s TAP gift bag which, in executive class, was filled with comfortable pyjamas, lavender cologne, Benamôr hand cream and Couto toothpaste. Majora’s famous “Sabichão” game, with a question and answer page exclusively devoted to TAP, will entertain kids and grown ups during this trip. TAP also offers this game to executive class passengers.
The meals will also faithfully recreate what was served on board in the 1970s. The starters will be shrimp salad and pheasant terrine, the latter only in executive class. The main course is Portuguese sirloin steak or Zé do Pipo baked cod steaks. Dessert will be sweetened with Regina chocolates. A banana parfait with chocolate is served in executive class. Passengers travelling in executive class will be joined by Rui Silvestre, the Michelin chef invited for the “Taste the Stars” project, launched by TAP last April. Rui Silvestre is responsible for the success of the Bon Bon restaurant in Carvoeiro. Silvestre will offer passengers a box of chocolates produced by his team and a pack of fleur de sel, offered by Sal Marim. Before embarking, Rui Silvestre highlighted his desire to “make known to TAP passengers some of the best products made in the Algarve” and he said it was “an honour to be part of this project and to be associated with such a prestigious airline.”
Brands such as Coca-Cola and Sagres beer mark their presence on board, served in glass bottles with 1970s labels. Also a Graham’s 1972 harvest port will be served at the end of the meal, in executive class. The crew will also invite all the customers to participate in the “hole punch game” of Regina chocolates, an experience that will surely be a novelty for the youngest passengers and a bit of nostalgic fun for grown ups. The inflight entertainment will include films from the 1970s and a music channel of the same period.
This retro trip is made on the “Portugal” plane, an Airbus A330 recently painted by TAP in the livery of one of its previous corporate images. This plane was presented to the public on two low altitude flights in Lisbon and Porto, on 26 June last. TAP intends to continue to surprise passengers travelling on the “Portugal” plane and it will operate more flights evoking the 1970s, to different destinations of the airline.
