(PRESS RELEASE) Kasese, Uganda, 2024-Mar-20 — /Travel PR News/ — Uganda is set to welcome runners from all over the world at the third Tusker Lite Rwenzori Marathon on the 24th August 2024. This exciting event is set to take place in the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains, also known as the “Mountains of the Moon” in western Uganda offering participants a challenging course and stunning scenery.

The Rwenzori Marathon is a social enterprise set up by a group of Ugandan entrepreneurs to create positive social change in the Rwenzori region. The event aims to promote healthy living, boost tourism in the area, and support local communities through the power of running. It also hopes to highlight the stunning natural beauty of the Rwenzori Mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a little visited mountain paradise.

The marathon will feature both a full and half marathon course, as well as a family 5 km fun run. The route takes you through the foothills of the Rwenzori ranges, with impressive scenery and far-reaching views into Uganda’s safari capital of Queen Elizabeth National Park. On a clear day runners will be able to see the glacial peaks of the Rwenzori ranges and Margherita Peak (5,109m), Uganda’s highest point and the third highest mountain in Africa. Those taking on the marathon will cross over the equator taking in the northern and southern hemisphere in one race.

The Rwenzori Marathon is set to become a significant event in East Africa’s sporting calendar, attracting runners of all levels from across the world. Participants can also expect to enjoy a range of cultural experiences, including traditional music and dance, as well as food and drink from local vendors.

The Rwenzori Marathon was listed at number one in the world’s most beautiful half marathons according to Outdoors Wire, USA Today, Americas newspaper giant, who highlighted the events view of snow-capped mountains so close to the equator and opportunity to stay on in country and trek for endangered mountain gorillas.

Sports commentator and keen runner Rob Walker who took part last year is back again for the 2024 event. “The atmosphere was absolutely electric for the Rwenzori Marathon and I am excited to be back again this year.
