These routes will improve accessibility and foster both leisure and business travel, contributing to regional economic growth. Additionally, the launch supports SAS’s broader expansion, which includes new routes and more frequent flights across Sweden, with Braathens Airways AB playing a key role in this growth.

(PRESS RELEASE) Stockholm, Sweden, 2025-Jan-30 — /Travel PR News/ — SAS has today launched two new domestic routes in Sweden as part of its ongoing commitment to expanding its network within the country. The new services connect Arlanda Airport to both Halmstad City Airport and Kalmar Öland Airport, further enhancing accessibility across Sweden from north to south.

By strengthening its domestic network, SAS continues to solidify its position as a key player in Sweden’s air travel infrastructure. These new connections between Arlanda, Halmstad, and Kalmar will provide vital travel options, benefitting both leisure and business travelers, and supporting the Swedish economy.

Edward Fotheringham, Vice President of Global Sales at SAS, expressed excitement about the new routes: “We’re thrilled to begin these operations to Halmstad and Kalmar. This move marks a significant step in our long-term strategy to improve travel options within Sweden and internationally. These new connections will foster stronger relationships for both leisure and business, positively impacting the entire country.”

Arlanda continues to serve as the heart of Sweden’s domestic traffic, offering seamless connections across the country as well as extensive global routes through SAS’s Copenhagen hub.

Halmstad, located in the southwestern part of Sweden, is an important hub for business development and a popular tourist destination, known for its picturesque coastline and vibrant cultural offerings. Anders Thornberg, Governor of Halland County, emphasized the importance of the air link: “The connection between Halmstad and Stockholm is crucial to our infrastructure, not only for business and regional development but also for Sweden’s defense and societal preparedness.”

Kalmar, located in the south of Sweden, is a region known for its entrepreneurial spirit and historical landmarks. The city, alongside the island of Öland, is a draw for tourists due to its natural beauty. Ronny Lindberg, CEO of Kalmar Öland Airport, welcomed the new route, stating: “It’s fantastic that SAS is operating the route to Kalmar with Arlanda as the hub. This increased accessibility is vital for the region’s continued growth, and we all have a role to play in making the most of this opportunity.”

SAS’s expansion has been significant in 2025, with new routes to Halmstad and Kalmar, as well as to Sälen, along with more frequent flights on existing routes. A key contributor to this growth is the collaboration with Braathens Airways AB (BRA), now a subcontractor for SAS.

SAS is excited to welcome both new and returning passengers onboard as it continues to improve domestic travel options across Sweden.
