(PRESS RELEASE) KYOTO, 2025-May-30 — /Travel PR News/ — IHG Hotels & Resorts (IHG) and GI Capital Management have celebrated the groundbreaking of the highly anticipated Regent Kyoto, set to open in 2028. This exciting new property will embody the pinnacle of modern luxury, blending Kyoto’s timeless heritage with innovative design and offering an unparalleled experience for travelers.
Regent Kyoto will be set around a central garden, originally designed over a century ago by renowned landscape gardener Kumakichi Kato, and reimagined for a new era while honoring Kato’s enduring legacy. The property will feature 83 elegant rooms, offering a sophisticated blend of heritage and contemporary luxury, world-class facilities, and a tranquil atmosphere inspired by Kyoto’s rich cultural and natural surroundings.
Located in the prestigious Okazaki district, known for its collection of celebrated villas, Regent Kyoto will sit on the site of Tsuruya, a celebrated ryotei restaurant with a century-long history. The premises were originally developed as both accommodation and a dining venue for Japan’s nobility, the imperial family, and esteemed state guests. Iconic Kyoto landmarks such as the Kyoto Imperial Palace, Heian Shrine, and Nanzen-ji Temple are just a short walk away, making the hotel an ideal location for visitors seeking both tranquility and cultural exploration.
Regent Kyoto’s guest rooms will feature a modern take on the traditional ‘engawa’ space by the window, a concept that invites guests to immerse themselves in the surrounding gardens and natural environment. This seamless integration of architectural heritage and contemporary design is central to Regent’s philosophy of serenity, subtle grandeur, and elegance.
