Qantas joins the movement to recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the Australian Constitution

Sydney, Australia, 2014-8-14 — /Travel PR News/ — Qantas has joined the movement to recognise Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the Australian Constitution by unveiling a new QantasLink Q400 aircraft showcasing a large RECOGNISE logo on its livery.

Qantas Group Executive Olivia Wirth said Qantas was pleased be an official partner of the RECOGNISE campaign and build on the airline’s longstanding contribution to celebrating the unique history and heritage of the world’s oldest continuing culture.

“As an Australian icon, Qantas is proud to lend its support towards ensuring the first chapter of Australia’s story and the people who forged it are recognised,” she said.

Qantas Ambassador and Australian of the Year Adam Goodes said it was wonderful to see Qantas stand with him and more than 214,000 Australians as supporters of RECOGNISE.

“It’s so important that every one of us plays our part in campaigning for this referendum and securing a resounding YES vote,” he said.

“I’m thrilled to see Qantas give its support to the RECOGNISE campaign and I ask every Australian to sign up to the movement today at recognise.org.au.”

RECOGNISE joint campaign director Tanya Hosch warmly welcomed the partnership.

“Qantas is a national symbol and source of pride for Australia and so it is fitting that this iconic company would stand strongly behind this campaign that seeks to deliver a unifying moment for the country,” she said

“We hope that many Australians will see this huge R on the plane as it travels around the country and be inspired to get involved in this historic opportunity to bring the nation together.”

“And once we commit, it’s crucial to back up that commitment by taking action to help spread the word, build this people’s movement and bring about this great achievement for the country.”

In addition to the aircraft livery unveiled at today’s event, QantasLink will soon embark on displaying a smaller version of the RECOGNISE logo on its entire fleet of 31 Q400 aircraft, ensuring the message is spread across the country.
