OAG: Aeroflot came out on top among the world’s traditional air carriers in terms of capacity growth

MOSCOW, Russia, 2017-Nov-29 — /Travel PR News/ — Aeroflot came out on top among the world’s traditional air carriers in terms of capacity growth. At the same time, the airline strengthened its position among the world’s Top-20 airlines for seat capacity, rising from 20th to 19th place, according to data from the British ratings agency OAG.

During the 12-month period ending in September 2017, Aeroflot increased its capacity by 15%. In the overall rankings, Aeroflot easily outscored all other traditional and low-cost airlines, excluding only the budget airline IndiGo, which operates on domestic routes in India.

OAG bases its Top-20 ratings on the maximum number of passengers an airline can carry within a 12-month period. The analytical review notes that Aeroflot showed very strong growth in the last 12 months. Aeroflot has an average fleet age of 4.2 years, which is the youngest among all the Top-20 airlines – another important competitive advantage for Aeroflot.

In 2016 Aeroflot Group placed 18th globally for passenger traffic, whilst also strengthening its position in strategic markets. According to data gathered by the British portal, Airline Network News @Analysis (anna.aero), Aeroflot became the global leader for long-haul travel between Europe and Asia, which is the most competitive market in civil aviation globally.

“This data from OAG is yet another confirmation that Aeroflot has returned to the very elite of global airlines”, said Aeroflot’s CEO Vitaly Saveliev, “not only are we delivering on our development strategy to 2025, we are doing so well ahead of schedule. Even in a complicated geo-political environment, Aeroflot continues to strengthen its position in the global aviation market – a trend we intend to continue in 2018.”

OAG is one of the most reliable sources of analysis covering the world’s aviation companies, with an extensive database which includes data on more than 900 airlines and 4000 airports.
