Marriott International and Sun Group representatives at signing event

(IN SHORT) Marriott International has signed a major agreement with Sun Group to develop 10 new hotels and resorts across Phu Quoc and Vung Tau, adding nearly 4,500 rooms and introducing brands such as W Hotels and Moxy Hotels to Vietnam for the first time. Scheduled to open between 2026 and 2030, the properties will be integrated into large-scale destination developments, particularly in Phu Quoc, which is emerging as a key tourism hub. The partnership strengthens collaboration between the two companies and supports Vietnam’s ambition to become a global travel and hospitality destination, including preparations for APEC 2027. The expansion builds on Marriott’s growing presence in the country, where it already operates 32 properties and has a strong development pipeline.

(PRESS RELEASE) VIETNAM, 2026-Mar-24 — /Travel PR News/ — Marriott International has entered into a major multi-property agreement with Sun Group, one of Vietnam’s leading destination developers, to introduce 10 new hotels and resorts across Phu Quoc and Vung Tau. The projects will collectively add nearly 4,500 rooms and bring eight of Marriott’s brands to these fast-growing destinations, including the debut of W Hotels and Moxy Hotels in Vietnam.

The developments are scheduled to open between 2026 and 2030 and form part of large-scale, integrated destination projects led by Sun Group. Beyond expanding Marriott’s footprint, the agreement also deepens the strategic partnership between the two companies, aligning global hospitality expertise with local destination development.

The portfolio will include a diverse mix of brands across segments, with properties planned in Phu Quoc such as Moxy Phu Quoc Hon Thom and Fairfield by Marriott Phu Quoc Hon Thom opening in 2026, followed by W Phu Quoc, Phu Quoc Marriott Resort & Spa, The Westin Phu Quoc, Le Méridien Phu Quoc, and Courtyard by Marriott Phu Quoc in 2027. In Vung Tau, additional properties including Vung Tau Marriott Hotel, Moxy Vung Tau, and Four Points by Sheraton Vung Tau are expected to open by 2030.

Senior leadership from both organizations attended the signing, including Anthony Capuano, President and CEO of Marriott International, Rajeev Menon, President for Asia Pacific excluding China, and Dang Minh Truong, Chairman of Sun Group. The collaboration reflects a shared vision to elevate Vietnam’s tourism infrastructure and strengthen its global positioning as a leading travel destination.

Rajeev Menon highlighted Vietnam’s growing importance in the global tourism landscape, noting that Marriott’s presence in the country has doubled since 2022. He emphasized the role of Phu Quoc as a rapidly emerging destination, supported by significant infrastructure and entertainment developments, and the importance of continued collaboration with Sun Group in shaping the future of the market.

Dang Minh Truong underscored the strategic significance of the agreement, describing it as a step toward enhancing Vietnam’s position in global tourism, hospitality, and MICE sectors. He pointed to the integration of international hotel brands within large-scale developments as a way to attract diverse international audiences and support major global events, including APEC 2027 in Phu Quoc.

A key focus of the expansion is the Ruby Beach development in southern Phu Quoc, where multiple Marriott brands will be integrated into a large mixed-use complex. Additional properties will be located on Hon Thom Island, connected via a cable car system, and will benefit from proximity to major attractions such as theme parks, entertainment venues, and waterfront developments.

Phu Quoc has increasingly established itself as a leading tourism destination in Asia, supported by infrastructure investments and enhanced connectivity, including new airline routes. Meanwhile, Vung Tau is set to emerge as a prominent coastal destination, benefiting from improved access via the newly developed Long Thanh International Airport and new beachfront developments.

The new projects will complement Marriott’s existing portfolio of 32 properties in Vietnam, spanning 11 brands, with more than 50 additional properties currently in development. Together, these initiatives reflect Marriott’s continued commitment to expanding its presence in high-growth markets and supporting the evolution of Vietnam’s hospitality sector.
