Marriott International Launches ‘Connect Responsibly’ to Boost Sustainability in Global Meetings and Events

(IN SHORT) Marriott International has launched Connect Responsibly with Marriott Bonvoy Events, a program designed to help meeting planners integrate sustainability into their events. The initiative provides detailed Meeting Impact Reports, allowing organizers to track environmental impacts such as carbon and water footprints, and offers access to carbon offset projects through a partnership with South Pole. This program is part of Marriott’s broader sustainability efforts under its Serve 360 platform and aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across its properties.

(PRESS RELEASE) Bethesda, MD, 2024-Oct-21 — /Travel PR News/ — Marriott International announced the global launch of Connect Responsibly with Marriott Bonvoy Events, a program aimed at helping meeting planners incorporate sustainability into their events at participating Marriott Bonvoy hotels worldwide. The initiative will provide detailed Meeting Impact Reports, allowing planners to track the environmental impact of their events, such as carbon and water footprints, and offer access to carbon offset projects through a partnership with South Pole, a leading climate consultancy.

Set to be available by the end of October 2024, Connect Responsibly responds to the growing demand for sustainable meeting solutions. The Meeting Impact Reports will offer comprehensive insights into the sustainability practices implemented at Marriott properties and give event organizers the option to purchase carbon credits for offsetting their events’ environmental impact. These reports will be available in 11 languages, making them accessible to Marriott’s global client base.

Erika Alexander, Chief Global Officer of Global Operations at Marriott, emphasized the importance of responsible in-person connections, noting, “With the Connect Responsibly program, we are empowering our meetings and events customers to understand the environmental impact of their gatherings as we work toward a more sustainable future for travel.”

Tammy Routh, Senior Vice President of Global Sales at Marriott, highlighted the alignment of the program with Marriott’s broader sustainability efforts, stating, “Connect Responsibly enhances our ongoing sustainability initiatives and offers our clients a way to participate in reducing their environmental footprint through verified carbon offset projects.”

This program is part of Marriott’s larger Serve 360: Doing Good in Every Direction platform, which focuses on the company’s social impact and environmental sustainability. Marriott is committed to reducing its greenhouse gas emissions, having received approval from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its near-term and long-term emission reduction goals.
