Mandarin Oriental appoints Vincent Poulingue to lead Paris flagship through major transformation and luxury repositioning

(IN SHORT) Mandarin Oriental has appointed Vincent Poulingue as General Manager of its Paris flagship hotel starting May 2026, aligning the leadership transition with the launch of an extensive property-wide transformation. The renovation will overhaul guestrooms, suites, public spaces, spa facilities, and dining venues, introducing new culinary concepts and redesigned interiors aimed at delivering a more contemporary Parisian luxury experience. With design contributions from Humbert & Poyet and Tara Bernerd, and development phased to keep the hotel operational, the initiative reflects Mandarin Oriental’s strategic investment in Paris and its broader goal of strengthening its global luxury portfolio while enhancing guest experience standards.

(PRESS RELEASE) HONG KONG, 2026-Apr-8 — /Travel PR News/ — Mandarin Oriental has announced a leadership change and a major repositioning of its Paris flagship, marking a significant moment for the luxury hospitality group in one of Europe’s most competitive hotel markets. The company confirmed that Vincent Poulingue will take on the role of General Manager at Mandarin Oriental, Paris from 18 May 2026, coinciding with the launch of a large-scale transformation programme aimed at redefining the property’s guest experience.

Poulingue joins from Hôtel du Palais Biarritz, bringing more than twenty years of experience across international luxury hospitality. His background includes leadership roles within Hyatt’s The Unbound Collection, InterContinental Hotels Group, and Barrière Group. Over the course of his career, he has developed a reputation for revitalising high-profile properties and delivering strong operational performance across multiple markets, including France, Portugal, Switzerland, and French Polynesia. He holds an MBA in International Hospitality Management from IMHI, a joint programme between Cornell University and ESSEC Business School.

His appointment comes as Mandarin Oriental embarks on an extensive renovation of its Paris property, signalling a strategic effort to elevate its positioning within the city’s luxury segment. The transformation will touch every aspect of the hotel, including guestrooms, suites, bathrooms, spa facilities, public areas, and dining venues, with the goal of creating a more contemporary and immersive Parisian experience.

Group Chief Executive Laurent Kleitman described the initiative as a long-term investment in one of the brand’s most prominent European properties. He noted that Poulingue’s experience in repositioning landmark hotels aligns with the group’s ambition to strengthen the hotel’s identity while maintaining its distinctive blend of global luxury and local character.

A key part of the redevelopment will be a complete rethinking of the hotel’s culinary offering. The plan introduces three new dining concepts—a bar, a brasserie-style restaurant, and a fine dining venue—all designed to overlook the hotel’s internal garden. These spaces will be created by Humbert & Poyet, known for combining Parisian elegance with modern design sensibilities.

The redesign of guestrooms and public spaces will be led by Tara Bernerd, a London-based architect recognised for creating residential-style interiors that balance comfort with refined aesthetics. Her approach is expected to reflect the spirit of Paris while reinforcing Mandarin Oriental’s emphasis on craftsmanship and detail.

Renovation work is scheduled to begin at the end of October 2026 and will be carried out in phases, allowing the hotel to remain open throughout the process. This phased approach is intended to minimise disruption and ensure that guests continue to experience the brand’s signature service during the transformation.

The project forms part of Mandarin Oriental’s broader long-term strategy, which focuses on enhancing its existing portfolio while expanding its presence in key global destinations. The investment in Paris underscores the group’s commitment to maintaining a strong foothold in one of the world’s most culturally and commercially significant luxury travel markets.
