Maldives participates in CITM, Shanghai China

2012-11-26 — /travelprnews.com/ — Maldives Marketing and PR Corporation (MMPRC) together with representatives from Maldives Tourism Industry have participated in China International Travel Market (CITM) 2012, the largest travel fair in Asia which took place in Shanghai China, from 15th to 18th November 2012.

MMPRC together with 61 representatives from 31 companies took part in the exhibition.

Maldives had the largest stand in the Asian Region.

CITM is the largest professional travel market in Asia. It has drawn the attention of people in the tourism industry worldwide. As an annual event, it is held in Shanghai and Kunming alternately. CITM 2012, jointly organized by China National Tourism Administration, Shanghai Municipal People’s Government and Civil Aviation Administration of China, was held in Shanghai New International Expo Centre.

For the first time a spa corner was embedded in to the Maldives stand at CITM, offering complimentary shoulder and neck massages. The main objective of having a spa corner is to promote health and wellness tourism in Maldives which is themed as the “Spiritual side of life.”

The Maldives delegation met journalists and gave the latest information about the destination Maldives. The main purpose of participating in the fair is to promote the Maldives as a tourist destination to the Chinese traveller. And also to further penetrate into Chinese market.

China has been the number one markets to Maldives since August 2010. The Chinese market performed well due to resuming of all charter airlines which operated previously with more frequency and flights from additional cities and strong demand for Maldives. 169,117 Chinese tourists visited Maldives by the end of September 2012 which represents a 24.5% market share.
