Maldives hosts media familiarisation tour targeting the Korean mainstream media

MALDIVES, 2014-9-3 — /Travel PR News/ — Maldives is currently hosting a media familiarisation tour targeting the Korean main stream media from 31st August – 6th September 2014.  Co-ordinated by the Maldives Marketing & PR Corporation and S Marketing (a Korean Public Relations Agency), with the theme “Healing Honeymoon with Pure Nature”, the main objective of this fam trip is to help boost arrivals from the South Korean Market, with the help of these media representatives. The journalists would get to experience the product on first hand in order to get positive editorial publicity about the destination and raise awareness on the destination tourism product. This FAM trip is being hosted by Meeru Island Resort & Spa, Paradise Island Resort & Spa, Velassaru Maldives, and complimentary dinner hosted by Hulhule Island Hotel.

During the fam trip, officials of MMPRC will be meeting with the journalists to present destination information, highlighting on the future developments of the Maldives tourism industry, specifically on the mid-market tourism development and share the destination’s marketing strategy for Northeast Asia.

The media group represents important South Korean media such as Maeil Business News, AB-Road, Women Sense, Woman Chosun, Tour de Monde and J Look (Joongang daily newspaper magazine) as well as a representative from S Marketing Korea.

Maeil Business newspaper is South Korea’s main daily business newspaper. This newspaper is mostly targeted towards high incomers, opinion leaders and C.E.Os.’ With coverage of 880,000 copies this is the most read newspaper in South Korean by the top opinion leaders and high earners.

AB-Road is a customer and corporate magazine targeted towards tourism agencies, tourism properties and travel enthusiasts, mostly aged between 20-40 years. This monthly magazine since its beginning in October 2000, has firmly placed itself as a travel expert and practical information magazine. AB-Road with a monthly circulation of 60,000 copies will publish an article of 6 pages in their monthly magazine.

Women Sense is a luxurious magazine targeted towards the general public in their 20’s -40’s. This feature has a monthly circulation of 100,000 copies.

Woman Chosun is another fascinating monthly magazine with a circulation of 150,000 that is now in much demand by high income earners and travel enthusiasts.

Tour De Monde is highly recognised in Korea as a unique guidebook by travel enthusiasts. It provides vivid stories on cities, different cultures, festivals and food. This magazine has a monthly circulation of 40,000 copies.

J Look (Joongang daily newspaper magazine) is Ko
rea’s leading daily newspaper providing credible news coverage and analysis that is targeted towards middle and upper class trendy subscribers from the metropolitan area. The monthly circulation of J Look is 400,000 copies.

S Marketing is a highly qualified PR agency providing comprehensive marketing services to their clients. S Marketing has successfully worked on online & offline marketing activities, research & advertising, promotional works and the development and maintenance of websites and online SNS.

17,158 arrivals were recorded from Korea from January to June 2014.  This is a positive growth of 41.9 percent compared to the same period in 2013.  Currently the Korean market shares 2.9 percent of total arrivals to the Maldives.  Korea being an affluent market with easy accessibility it has huge potential for further growth.

Hosting of the fam trip will help increase awareness of the destination through exclusives reports and articles reaching potential visitors of relevant target groups.  This will in turn strengthen the positive image of the Maldives as a tourist destination and help boost arrivals from Korea.
