The Airbus A340-600 with flight number LH 2572 will take off on 11 July at 10.30 p.m. and arrive in Rio de Janeiro the following day at 5.40 a.m. Return flights are available daily via Frankfurt. Those wanting to combine the trip with a holiday in Brazil can also fly back from São Paulo, where there are daily connections to Munich and Frankfurt.
In addition to the footballing experience, Rio de Janeiro offers a whole host of must-see attractions. These include the famous Copacabana and Ipanema beaches, the Cordovado with the statue of Christ and Sugarloaf Mountain. The Lufthansa flight to Rio de Janeiro is one of the most tradition-filled routes in the history of the airline. On 15 August 1956, Lufthansa launched the first South American passenger service from Hamburg via Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Paris and Dakar, before finally landing in Rio de Janeiro with a Lockheed L-1049G Super Constellation. The route was flown twice a week with a total flight time of around 22.5 hours, according to the flight plan.
