Stay on the ball at cruising altitude with live English-language TV channel Sport 24
2012-11-30 — /travelprnews.com/ — Lufthansa is continuing to roll out its FlyNet broadband Internet service across its intercontinental network. Two years after the launch of FlyNet, it is now able to offer inflight broadband connectivity on a record 80 aircraft in its long-haul fleet, thus making it the largest broadband Internet-enabled long-haul fleet in the world. From mid-December onwards, satellite coverage for the high-speed FlyNet system will be generally available across Lufthansa’s entire long-haul network (with the exception of China and South Africa). The next Boeing 747-8s, which will join the Lufthansa fleet in March, will already be equipped with FlyNet ex works.
More and more FlyNet aircraft are now equipped to offer a special programme: Sport 24. The English-language live sports channel is integrated into a free portal and can be received via wireless LAN (WLAN) on a personal tablet or laptop. From football to golf – Lufthansa passengers can now follow the action live and stay on the ball, even when they are above the clouds. Sport 24, which has exclusive global broadcast rights for major sports events, provides live coverage of Formula 1 races, the NFL Super Bowl, Wimbledon, the French Open tennis tournament and the Ryder Cup and US Open golf events. It also transmits German Bundesliga games as well as English Premiere League matches. By next spring, Sport 24 coverage will be available on all FlyNet aircraft.
Lufthansa has pulled off quite a coup for the next Bundesliga fixture. On Saturday 1 December, two editors from the popular German football magazine 11Freunde will be providing live commentary (in German) on the big game between FC Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund aboard flight LH 412 from Munich to Newark. Their commentary will be available online at www.11freunde.de/liveticker.
