London Luton Airport Unveils £11.5 Million Hangar Refurbishment and Logistics Hub, Creating 150 Jobs
(IN SHORT) London Luton Airport’s operator and owner have committed £11.5 million to refurbish two former Monarch hangars into maintenance hubs—a new easyJet facility with an apprenticeship campus and a second major airline’s engineering base—alongside a logistics consolidation centre. These projects, housed in previously vacant structures acquired in February 2024, will create up to 150 jobs in engineering, apprenticeships, and logistics. The new consolidation centre will streamline deliveries for 50+ retail and food outlets, reducing vehicle movements and emissions. Local and airline leaders highlight the development’s role in fostering skills, career pathways, and sustainable growth for the Luton community.
(PRESS RELEASE) LONDON, 2025-Jul-10 — /Travel PR News/ — The operator and owner of London Luton Airport (LLA) have launched an £11.5 million refurbishment initiative that repurposes two former Monarch hangars and establishes a new logistics consolidation centre—creating up to 150 jobs. Acquired in February 2024, one hangar will become easyJet’s advanced maintenance base and apprenticeship training campus, generating over 30 engineering positions and supporting up to 40 apprentices annually. A second global airline will fit out the adjacent hangar for its own maintenance operations, adding yet more skilled roles.
Complementing these facilities, LLA’s new consolidation centre will centralize inbound deliveries for the airport’s 50+ shops and restaurants, streamlining goods handling and cutting vehicle trips—while creating around 30 jobs in logistics and operations.
“Repurposing these hangars underscores our dedication to local employment and skills development,” said Alberto Martin, LLA’s CEO. “By partnering with Luton Rising, we’re investing in inclusive growth, generating high-value careers in engineering and enhancing the efficiency of airport supplies.”
“This long-term investment brings 150 new roles, apprenticeships, and training pathways that will benefit our community well beyond 2035,” added Councillor Javeria Hussain, Deputy Chair of Luton Rising and Luton Council’s Skills and Education portfolio holder. “Airlines’ commitment to LLA validates our sustainable growth strategy and its positive impact on the town and region.”
Brendan McConnellogue, easyJet’s Director of Engineering and Maintenance, noted: “Our second hangar at LLA bolsters our UK expansion, supports fuel-efficient aircraft, and establishes an apprenticeship campus dedicated to nurturing the next generation of aviation engineers.”
