Korean Air and Asiana unite in upcycling initiative turning uniforms into fire-safe pouches while funding survivors of fallen firefighters
(NEWS) SEOUL, 2025-Aug-27 — /Travel PR News/ — Korean Air and Asiana Airlines have joined forces in a meaningful corporate social responsibility initiative that blends sustainability with community support. The two carriers launched an upcycling campaign that transformed retired airline uniforms and old firefighter suits into 1,000 portable battery pouches. The pouches, designed with flame-retardant linings recycled from firefighter gear and tested for fire safety earlier this year, were offered to employees and sold out in just ten days.
The project not only emphasized safety awareness but also served as a fundraising effort. Proceeds from the sales generated KRW 15 million, and Korean Air matched the amount with an additional KRW 15 million, resulting in a total donation of KRW 30 million. These funds were presented to the Fallen Fighters Survivor Hope Sharing Foundation, which supports the families of firefighters who lost their lives while serving their communities.
A donation ceremony marking the initiative was held on August 26 at Korean Air’s Seoul headquarters, with representatives from both airlines and the foundation in attendance. Company officials highlighted the importance of employee participation in the initiative, stressing that such collaborative projects symbolize the airlines’ commitment to community service, safety, and social impact.
Korean Air noted that this campaign is part of its ongoing efforts to combine environmental responsibility with social contribution. Both airlines pledged to continue developing community-focused projects aimed at fostering safety and supporting vulnerable groups, reinforcing their role not only as global carriers but also as contributors to society.
