(IN SHORT) KLM has reached a key milestone in its fleet renewal programme with its first Airbus A350 entering final assembly at Airbus’s Toulouse facility. The aircraft, expected to be delivered by the end of summer, offers significant environmental and operational advantages, including 25% lower fuel consumption and a 40% reduction in noise compared to older models like the Boeing 777-200ER. The A350 will also enhance passenger comfort and provide advanced digital capabilities for pilots. As part of a broader €7 billion investment, KLM is modernising its fleet with additional aircraft such as the Embraer 195-E2, Airbus A321neo, and Boeing 787, with plans to introduce the A350F for cargo operations in 2027.

(PRESS RELEASE) AMSTELVEEN, the Netherlands, 2026-Apr-3 — /Travel PR News/ — KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has reached a significant milestone in its fleet modernisation programme, as its first Airbus A350 enters the Final Assembly Line at Airbus in Toulouse. At this stage, the aircraft’s major structural components are brought together, forming the complete airframe, with the distinctive KLM livery already visible on the tail. The airline anticipates taking delivery of the aircraft by the end of the summer.

The introduction of the Airbus A350 marks a key step in KLM’s efforts to modernise its fleet with more sustainable and efficient aircraft. Compared to the Boeing 777-200ER, the A350 delivers approximately 25% lower fuel consumption and significantly reduces noise levels, with a footprint that is around 40% smaller. These improvements contribute to both environmental performance and operational efficiency.

Passengers are expected to benefit from enhanced onboard conditions, including one of the quietest cabin environments in its category, improved air circulation, and higher cabin pressure for increased comfort during long-haul travel. For flight crews, the aircraft introduces a fully digital cockpit, designed to improve operational support and efficiency.

KLM’s broader fleet renewal strategy includes a planned investment of €7 billion over the coming years. Alongside the A350, the airline is introducing additional aircraft types to modernise its operations across both short- and long-haul networks. These include the Embraer 195-E2 for KLM Cityhopper services, the Airbus A321neo for European routes, and the Boeing 787 Dreamliner for intercontinental operations.

Looking ahead, KLM also plans to expand its cargo capabilities with the addition of the Airbus A350F freighter, scheduled to enter service in 2027. The ongoing fleet renewal programme reflects the airline’s long-term commitment to improving sustainability, operational performance, and passenger experience.
