Culture and Tradition are the Focus of Hispanic Heritage Fiesta
INDIANAPOLIS – Celebrate the rich traditions and cultures of Latin America during Hispanic Heritage Fiesta from 12Noon to 4pm September 16 at the Indianapolis Zoo. Presented in partnership with La Voz de Indiana, this fourth-annual event will help to kick off National Hispanic Heritage Month in Indianapolis.
Zoo visitors will have no time for a siesta as the afternoon includes an array of activities and entertainment, all with a Hispanic flair! La música tradicional de la cultura (the traditional music of the culture) performed by a live mariachi band will help put guests in a festive spirit. The Zoo’s eateries will feature special menu options inspired by the flavors of Latin America. Children can meet Maya and Miguel from WFYI, create culturally themed crafts and take a swing at a piñata every hour. Plus, guests can see “Dora & Diego’s 4-D Adventure” in the Zoo’s 4-D Theater for half price throughout the day.
The Zoo will also spotlight animals native to Latin American countries, and guests who follow the scavenger hunt clues to find all the animals will receive a small gift. Local businesses that proudly serve the Hispanic community will also set up information booths where guests can register to win prizes.
In case of inclement weather, the festivities will move inside the Zoo’s Party Pavilion. All of the day’s events are free for Zoo members and included with regular Zoo admission, and visitors can also find a coupon for $2.00 off admission on the Zoo’s Facebook page. For more information, visit the Zoo’s website.
The nationwide celebration officially begins each year on September 15 — the anniversary of independence for the Latin American countries of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua. The month formally highlights Hispanic culture and achievements.
