MUMBAI, 2014-04-14 — /Travel PR News/ — The all new state-of-the-art international integrated terminal T2 at Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport today commenced operations with the inaugural flight of Jet Airways, India’s premier international airline, to London Heathrow. The airline has already carried out terminal process proving flights to establish the operational and logistical readiness.
Jet Airways’ flight 9W 118 from Mumbai to London Heathrow became the first international flight to take off at 1320 hrs from India’s most new, modern and spacious Terminal 2.
Following the first flight, Jet Airways will operate 9W 538 and 9W 544 to Dubai at 1540 hrs and 1855 hrs respectively. Jet Airways, with a fleet of 112 aircraft, offers an average of 25 international services to/from Mumbai to the Gulf, Far East, Europe, and North America providing seamless connections for all our guests.
As one of the largest carriers’s, operating an average daily 111 flights out of Mumbai, Terminal 2 will serve as one of its major international hubs. As part of this strategy, Jet Airways will provide guests with a seamless passenger experience, while also connecting maximum passengers through non-stop and one stop routes to destinations on its domestic and international network.
Spread across 4.4 million sq. ft, the new integrated Terminal 2 is an iconic mega-structure that will set global benchmarks in airport infrastructure development. Featuring a highly compact design by New York based SOM, T2 will have the ability to handle 40 million passengers annually.
Terminal 2 is an architectural marvel, featuring a sparkling 208 check-in counters and 60 immigration counters. Jet Airways has been allotted check in counters 1 to 14 at N Island (gate seven level 4) for economy class guests and JP members and P Island (gate 8 level 4) counters 8 to 10 for First Class and Premiere class guests.
MIAL’s new Terminal 2 also boasts a number of attractions for passengers including a large retail presence, transit hotel and a plethora of services to offer guests a truly world-class passenger experience. In addition, Terminal 2 has dedicated level 2 for all Arrivals with 10 fully–automatic baggage-handling carousels and 72 arrival immigration counters, while Level 1 is designed for ground transportation. In addition, the new Terminal 2 is designed to serve 90% guests by aerobridges.
