Jersey Live Festival returns to the Royal Jersey Showground this summer

2013-07-02 — /travelprnews.com/ — Dinosaur JR confirmed for Jersey Live Main Stage, Dry The River confirmed to headline Folklore Stage + Camo & Krooked replace Zeds Dead on Dance Stage.

Jersey Live Festival returns to the Royal Jersey Showground this summer, supported for the 8th year by headline sponsors JT, for its 10th anniversary event. Following the recent additions of Chic featuring Nile Rodgers, Nina Nesbitt, The 1975, Gabrielle Aplin and Deap Vally to the line up, we’re delighted to announce the latest wave of acts to join the bill at the 10,000-capacity weekend event. With the recent announcement that the festival has been granted a camping license for the first time in its 9-year history, it’s shaping up to be the biggest, best and most unforgettable Jersey Live yet!

Joining a Saturday (31st August) Main Stage line up that already includes Fatboy Slim, The Cribs and Chic featuring Nile Rodgers are cult grunge heroes Dinosaur Jr. The Massachussets alt rock trio formed in 1984 and are considered one of the most influential alternative rock bands of their era. Frontman, principal songwriter and guitarist J Mascis is often cited as ‘the godfather of grunge’ and was ranked 86th in a Rolling Stone poll of the greatest guitarists of all time, such was the impact of his band’s output in the late 1980s and early ‘90s. Influenced themselves by the likes of The Ramones, Nick Cave, Motorhead, The Beach Boys and Neil Young, their combination of addictive melodies and violently explosive choruses wrapped in fuzzy feedback set a template that would be copied by many a British and American indie band. It’s with great pleasure that we welcome them to the island of Jersey for the first time.

Meanwhile over on the Dance Stage, we regretfully announce that Canadian dubstep duo Zeds Dead have been forced to cancel due to album commitments. They were due to appear on Saturday ahead of headliner Netsky, however released this statement to Jersey Live fans: “”We have to regretfully cancel Jersey festival as due to commitments for our album which requires Zeds Dead to be Stateside during that time period.” However, we’ve moved swiftly to line up a replacement and are delighted to welcome Austrian drum & bass superstars Camo & Krooked to the Dance Stage line up. The duo, Reinhard ‘Camo’ Rietsch and Markus ‘Krooked’ Wagner, are an act that have been regularly requested by Jersey Live-goers in recent years so naturally we’re over the moon to have them performing at the festival. The producer-DJs have won four Drum & Bass Arena awards since 2010 and were described by the legendary Grooverider as “one of the biggest talents in drum & bass”. With a mix of dubstep, electro house and techno influencing their unique brand of drum & bass, they have a reputation for exhilarating DJ sets, and we expect their Jersey Live appearance to be no exception!

Finally, we are now able to reveal our Saturday night Folklore Stage headliners, London folk rock five-piece Dry the River, who return to Jersey Live after having first appeared here in 2011. Signed to recording giants Sony, the band have gone on to big things since their last visit to the island, with their stellar talents recognised in 2012 when they were included on the long list for the influential BBC ‘Sound Of…’ poll, eventually won by fellow British folk artist Michael Kiwanuka. As a live band they’re nothing short of a revelation – at times gentle and breezy, at other times ferocious, and with plenty of new material to showcase, we’re expecting their Folklore Stage performance to be a visceral, passionate affair.

Set in the lush countryside surrounds of the Parish of Trinity, Jersey Live is the UK’s southernmost festival and with more sunshine than any other part of the British Isles, and one of the warmest, friendliest festival audiences you could hope to encounter, it’s the perfect festival destination.

Keep your eyes peeled for more line up announcements across the seven stages, to be made in the coming weeks! For more information, please visit www.jerseylive.org.uk.
