JAL will uplift SAF in US West Coast from 2025
Tokyo, Japan, 2023-Jan-19 — /Travel PR News/ — JAL Group is working toward our goal to achieve net zero emission by 2050, as means of upgrading to fuel-efficient aircraft, improving flight operations, and utilizing SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel). Now, JAL has concluded a MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) for the procurement of SAF with Raven SR Inc. (Head Office: Wyoming, US, hereinafter “Raven”)(*), a renewable fuel producer from waste, and ITOCHU Corporation (Head Office: Tokyo, Japan, hereinafter “ITOCHU”), Raven’s investor. SAF is planned to be supplied in California, US from 2025.
Facility
The basic agreement with Raven and ITOCHU will lead to the achievement of the SAF utilization targets to replace 1% of the whole fuel amount to SAF by fiscal year 2025 and 10% by fiscal year 2030, as stated in “JAL Group Medium-Term Management Plan Formulated the Rolling Plan 2022”. JAL will also have SAF supplied in the US West Coast, SAF made from tallow by Aemetis Inc. from fiscal year 2024, and SAF made from inedible corn by Gevo Inc. from fiscal year 2026. In the current situation where the supply of SAF is limited, JAL will contribute to the popularization and market expansion of SAF and promote carbon neutrality in aviation by demonstrating the need for SAF produced from a variety of feedstocks, including used cooking oil, tallow, and biomass, as well as waste products. JAL will continue to accelerate procurements to uplift SAF globally and advance the commercialization, diffusion and expansion of the domestically produced SAF through the ACT FOR SKY activities.
