ATLANTA – 2012-10-22 — /travelprnews.com/ — Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport officials met today with South African delegates interested in learning how the world’s busiest airport plans for growth while managing daily operations in conjunction with other aviation agencies.
Representatives of Hartsfield-Jackson, Delta Air Lines, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) and U.S. Customs and Border Protection discussed the Airport’s important role in the metro Atlanta economy. Hartsfield-Jackson leaders also shared best business and design solutions that help ensure the safety and security of all passengers and employees at the Airport.
“In 2011, Hartsfield-Jackson accommodated 92 million passengers to retain its title as the world’s busiest airport,” said Aviation General Manager Louis Miller. “As a global aviation hub, with 80 percent of the nation’s population within a two-hour flight, Hartsfield-Jackson’s top priorities certainly are safety and security.”
After the meeting, Airport officials provided a tour of the facility, including the TSA-managed security checkpoint and baggage screening areas, the new Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Terminal and airfield operations. On Tuesday, the South African delegates will travel to Dulles International Airport in Washington and John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City to meet with aviation officials.
“We are happy to work with leaders of other airports to share the vision and planning practices that have helped Hartsfield-Jackson to become the world’s most efficient airport,” Miller said.
The information-sharing sessions continue on Tuesday, when Hartsfield-Jackson will host executives from the state of Saxony-Anhalt in Germany. The delegation, led by two German ministers, will gather information about Hartsfield-Jackson’s best practices, particularly related to supply chain excellence.
Hartsfield-Jackson continues to build upon its strong global partnerships and international engagement program. This year, the Airport has hosted delegations from Brazil, China, France, Germany, Nigeria and Singapore.
