Cites Need for Industry to Support Student Scholarships
2013-02-25 — /travelprnews.com/ — Harry Javer has been named chair of the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Foundation (AH&LEF) Fund Development Committee, which is responsible for overseeing the Annual Giving campaign, the group’s primary fundraising vehicle.
Javer is founder and president of The Conference Bureau and the co-founder and producer of the annual Lodging Conference, now in its 19th year. He has been in the event business for 30 years, including senior management positions at The Learning Annex, One Day University, and Rock n’ Roll Fantasy Camp. A strong supporter of AH&LEF, for the last 12 years The Lodging Conference has sponsored scholarship recipients to attend to attend the conference.
“I am extremely honored and excited to serve as chair of the Fund Development Committee,” said Javer. “Now that the hotel industry is rebounding, it is essential we look to the future and support the next generation of industry leaders. With the cost of college and graduate school continuing to rise, those of us who can need to step up our support of the AH&LEF, so that today’s students will be tomorrow’s industry leaders.”
The Annual Giving Campaign is the Foundation’s key yearly fundraiser that supports its core missions, including providing scholarships to hospitality management students, funding important research in areas such as room tax and ADA requirements, as well as promoting hospitality as a career of choice and workforce development initiatives.

AH&LEF is the not-for-profit affiliate of AH&LA and is funded solely by charitable donations from progressive hospitality leaders and companies within the industry. In 2012, AH&LEF disbursed almost $1 million to prepare promising college students for a career in hospitality, to attract and retain talented industry professionals, and to fund valuable research for lodging properties. Since the Foundation’s inception, $16.5 million has been distributed through its scholarship, education, outreach, and research programs.
