Dulles and Reagan National Pioneer Improvements for Airport Travelers

2012-08-14 — /travelprnews.com/ — New programs in place at Dulles International and Reagan National Airports help passengers move more efficiently through the airports’ security checkpoints. At Dulles, new technology provides live wait-time displays at security screening so passengers can make an informed selection. At Reagan National, an expanding Transportation Security Administration program called “TSA Pre-Check” (TSA Pre✓™) provides expedited screening for passengers at the north and south checkpoints in Terminal B/C.

Dulles International
Dulles is the first airport in the country to debut a video analytics system from Blue Eye Video Company that automatically calculates wait times at the Main Terminal’s east and west security mezzanine checkpoints. The wait times are displayed in real time in the terminal and on the Airports Authority’s website www.mwaa.com/dulles for desktop and mobile devices. Since both mezzanines are connected beyond security, passengers have the option to select the line with the shorter wait.

“Real-time data puts the power in our customers’ hands,” said Chris Browne, Vice President and Dulles Airport Manager. “Dulles passengers can use this new service to eliminate the guesswork in selecting which checkpoint to use.”

The system uses video recognition analytics to constantly measure the number of people in line and the number of people completing the security screening process. From this data and algorithms tailored for Dulles, wait times for the Airport’s security mezzanine checkpoints are calculated in real time.

Reagan National
Reagan National was among the first airports in the country to debut TSA Pre-Check. This program opens expedited screening lanes to these passengers:

  • Certain frequent flyers of Delta, Alaska, United and US Airways. Check with your airline to confirm eligibility and opt-in. Airline participation in TSA Pre-Check continues to expand.
  • Active members of the U.S. military who show their “CAC” (Common Access Card) at the checkpoint.
  • Passengers enrolled in “Global Entry.” Simply enter your trusted traveler PASS ID information when booking airline travel. Click here to learn more and to apply. Global Entry has the added benefit of speeding processing through U.S. Customs at Dulles International.

Dulles is working with the Transportation Security Administration to open TSA Pre-Check lanes in late September. For more information about TSA Pre-Check, please visit www.tsa.gov.
