Garrett Popcorn Shops opens third location at O’Hare International Airport

O’Hare’s 3rd Garrett shop brings passengers a taste of Chicago tradition

CHICAGO, IL, 2019-Apr-01 — /Travel PR News/ — Garrett Popcorn Shops today (March 29, 2019) joined airport officials for the opening of the third location at O’Hare International Airport. Garrett, “A Chicago Tradition Since 1949,” is currently operating out of Terminals 1 and 3, and is expanding to its newest location in Terminal 5 near Gate M12.

For 70 years Garrett has been handcrafting small batches of gourmet popcorn using secret family recipes that feature the highest quality ingredients, and a signature blend of hot-air popped kernels.

At the new Terminal 5 Garrett location, millions of international travelers now have the opportunity to soar the skies while snacking on signature recipes including CaramelCrisp, CheeseCorn, and vegan Buttery or Plain.  Additionally, Garrett will proudly serve the original and world famous Chicago recipe founded by its fans decades ago, the Garrett Mix, combining CaramelCrisp and CheeseCorn.

Since opening its first shop at O’Hare in 2008, Garrett Popcorn Shops has earned accolades including being voted the Best Airport Grab-and-Go Dining brand by USA TODAY, 10Best, and among the Best Airport Food in America according to Business Insider.

“We are thrilled to welcome our newest location of the iconic Chicago brand, Garrett Popcorn, to O’Hare’s Terminal 5,” said Jamie L. Rhee, Commissioner, CDA. “O’Hare is on the move, serving more passengers than ever before, and this new Garrett location is a taste of what’s to come as we expand opportunities for our travelers to shop, dine and relax. We congratulate this new Garrett location on becoming the first 100 percent joint venture ACDBE concession at O’Hare, and look forward to introducing many more exciting new brands and local staples as we modernize Chicago’s gateway to the world.”

Terminal 5 is set to receive a number of improvements in the next couple of years. O’Hare officials joined Mayor Rahm Emanuel and airport partners to break ground on a $1.2 billion expansion that will make way for 10 new gates, an expanded security checkpoint, and more space for concessions and amenities.

“We are thrilled to bring even more local flavor to O’Hare’s international travelers in T5,” said Brian Petrow, Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield Airports’ Vice President of Development and Asset Lead. “Garrett is a beloved Chicago institution with proud, local and as a 100 percent ACDBE partner— the perfect way to kick off the Terminal 5 expansion.”

Garrett has been popular with Chicagoans, travelers and tourists alike and is a consistently ranked top-ten retailer at O’Hare. The success of Garrett at O’Hare has cleared the way for the brand to expand at Midway International Airport as well.  As part of the $75 million redevelopment of the airport’s concessions program, Midway is expected to open two more Garrett locations by 2020.

The Garrett Popcorn Shop in Terminal 5 is operated in partnership with two local businesses that are certified Airport Concessions Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (ACDBE): Midway Restaurant Development (MRD) and Pastorelle Marketing Group (PMG). These two local companies have come together in a rare partnership between two minority and/or women-owned companies to operate an airport location, raising the bar on diversity and inclusion for both operators and employees as part of O’Hare’s concessions program.
