ZURICH, Switzerland, 2019-Mar-11 — /Travel PR News/ — The joint ownership company of THE CIRCLE, comprising Flughafen Zürich AG and Swiss Life AG, celebrated the topping-out last Tuesday together with the contractor hrs. Building work on the new destination is progressing on schedule. THE CIRCLE will make Zurich Airport an urban centre.
Two years after the foundation stone ceremony in March 2017, Switzerland’s currently largest construction project reached another milestone: together with around 1,000 employees Flughafen Zürich AG, Swiss Life AG and hrs celebrated the topping-out in the Convention Hall last Tuesday. The four buildings that form the core have reached their final height and the two at the northern and southern ends will follow in the next few months. The joint ownership wishes to thank all involved in the project and in particular the workers on the construction site whose commitment and hard work helped reach this milestone.
News from THE CIRCLE construction site
There are currently around 700 workers on the site each day, and the construction work is proceeding apace. Most of the shell has been completed and around half of the 87 lifts have been installed. Another focus is currently the installation of the pipes for the main building services rooms. The facade has now been visible for a few weeks, parts of the protective wall of the first building were dismantled starting in mid-February, and the material will be recycled after being removed. The protective wall is necessary in particular owing to the overhanging buildings near the Ringstrasse where the overhang is up to 13.5 metres on the tenth storey. The protective wall will be dismantled in stages over the next few months and the work is set to be completed in autumn 2019.
Opening of the new destination in 2020
THE CIRCLE will become a central attraction that shapes and strengthens Zurich Airport. From 2020, it will be possible to hold conferences for up to 2,500 guests directly at Switzerland’s largest national airport. A medical centre run by the University Hospital of Zurich, two Hyatt Group hotels, various brand worlds, attractive office space, and arts, culture, restaurants and education facilities will round out the wide range at Zurich Airport. THE CIRCLE will thus enrich the whole region, both culturally and economically.
The new destination is due to open in 2020. With THE CIRCLE, the airport operator and Swiss Life are achieving densification at a location with excellent connections.
Flughafen Zürich AG and Swiss Life AG have formed a joint ownership company, with Flughafen Zürich AG holding a 51% stake and Swiss Life AG 49%.
