easyJet invited Henry Smith MP for Crawley to London Gatwick airport to hear about the airline’s Change for Good onboard collections

Generous Gatwick passengers have donated over £841,000 on easyJet flights to raise money in the global fight against polio

LONDON, 2014-8-21 — /Travel PR News/ — easyJet, the UK and London Gatwick airport’s largest airline, invited Henry Smith  MP for Crawley to London Gatwick airport yesterday, 20 August 2014, to hear about  the airline’s Change for Good onboard collections that raise vital funds to support UNICEF in the global fight against polio.

The Change for Good partnership between easyJet and UNICEF, the world’s leading children’s organisation has raised a staggering £3,035,303 through passenger donations since it launched in July 2012. This has enabled UNICEF to vaccinate 4 million mothers and children against life-threatening diseases in West and Central Africa, as well as help protect 2 million children from polio.

Over £841,000 has been donated on easyJet’s flights in and out of London Gatwick airport alone.

Henry Smith MP for Crawley said:
“I was delighted to visit Gatwick and hear about easyJet’s fantastic partnership with UNICEF and the Change for Good campaign, which is providing life-saving vaccinations for children. The fact that enough money has been raised so far to provide vaccines for more than 4 million mothers and children is a testament to the generosity of easyJet passengers.

“As the opening ceremony of the recent Commonwealth Games showed, UNICEF are not afraid to using innovative ways to spread the word for their vital work. I hope that people across Crawley and further afield continue to help them in their life-saving work around the world.”

easyJet Cabin Crew member, Kristian Hanslip, recently flew to Mauritania, North West Africa to visit one of UNICEF’s immunisation clinics supported by the Change for Good campaign, to see the impact of the onboard collections first-hand.

Kristian, easyJet Cabin Crew of the Year, said:
“It was great to have Henry with us at Gatwick yesterday to hear about the partnership between easyJet and UNICEF.”

“Visiting Mauritania in Africa was an eye opening experience and allowed us to see where customer donations and funds raised at easyJet go to, and shows just what a worthy cause this is.

“The partnership is extremely powerful and all cabin crew are proud to be a part of that. Our fundraising for Change for Good began in 2012 and with over £3million raised to date, it’s clear that the money donated has saved so many lives across the world. I’d also like to personally thank our customers at Gatwick who have made this possible.”

Just under 2.5 million passengers are expected to fly with easyJet over the summer period from Gatwick and the airline and its on-board partner UNICEF are urging people to donate as much as possible to help protect and save children’s lives.

More information on the partnership, including a film from Mauritania, can be found at www.easyJet.com/unicef.
