DRESDEN, Germany, 2019-Feb-22 — /Travel PR News/ — In 2018 Egypt was one of the destinations with the highest growth rates at Dresden Airport. With more than 71,300 passengers using services from Dresden, numbers were up by more than 70 percent. In response to this high demand, Corendon Airlines will once again be running two weekly flights to Hurghada from Dresden in the upcoming summer season. Corendon Airlines flights bound for Egypt will depart every Tuesday and Saturday from 4 May to the end of October.
Besides Hurghada, Corendon Airlines also flies from Dresden to the popular Turkish holiday resort of Antalya. The airline departs for Turkey on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays in the summer season.
“We are delighted that Corendon Airlines is expanding its commitment to Dresden Airport by running flights to the popular holiday resort of Hurghada again this summer. The airline is an important partner to our Dresden and Leipzig/Halle Airports, connecting the region with a range of attractive sunshine destinations. At the same time, the flights to Egypt are closing the gap in services at Dresden that arose following the insolvency of Germania,” says Götz Ahmelmann, Mitteldeutscher Flughafen AG CEO and chairman of the boards of Dresden and Leipzig/Halle Airports.
Thomas Braun, Germany Manager of Corendon Airlines, adds: “Corendon Airlines is increasing its commitment to Eastern Germany with the introduction of additional flights between Dresden Airport and Egypt. For us, Dresden has been an important, stable market for many years and expanding our flights at this time is a logical consequence of that. We are delighted to have been able to further expand our excellent working relationship with Dresden Airport by taking this step.”
Corendon Airlines has been flying to various destinations around the Mediterranean on behalf of well-known travel operators since 2005. Corendon Airlines will be offering a total of around 1.5 million flight seats in the German market in the upcoming summer season. Well-known for its punctual handling and friendly on-board service, the airline has received numerous awards over the years and has also been offering seat-only sales of all flights via Amadeus/TOMA, Bistro and the Traffics, Peakwork and Schmetterling systems since January 2018. The airline is a member of the owner-managed Corendon Touristic group, which, besides three airlines, also includes two travel operators, an incoming tourism agency and numerous hotels in Turkey, Amsterdam, Ibiza and Curaçao.
Flughafen Dresden GmbH is a subsidiary of the Central German Airports Group with around 1.76 million passengers per year (2018).

Short and barrier-free routes are characteristic of the unique Dresden Airport Terminal, a former aviation industry hangar. Arrivals and Departures as well as service areas can all be found under one roof. It is also home to Dresden’s biggest travel centre, the Gate 14 airport shop (www.gate14.de) and a conference and events centre with a panoramic view of aircraft on the apron. The customer service was awarded the “Service Quality in Germany” level II certificate by the Saxon Tourist Board.
