City of Chicago: Rideshare companies now allowed to pick-up passengers at Chicago’s airports, as well as McCormick Place

CHICAGO, 2015-11-26 — /Travel PR News/ — Rideshare companies are now allowed to pick-up passengers at Chicago’s airports, as well as McCormick Place. The new City of Chicago regulations became effective on Sunday, November 22.

Currently Lyft and Uber are authorized to pick-up passengers. The move comes in time for the busy holiday travel season and will help ensure that passengers traveling from Chicago’s airports can do so safely and with a variety of options, including the CTA, taxis and rideshare companies.

Airport Pick-Up Locations

At O’Hare, rideshare vehicles pick up passengers from the domestic terminals on the upper level roadway, at two designated curbside pickup locations between Terminals 1 and 2 and between Terminals 2 and 3. Rideshare vehicles pick up passengers from International Terminal 5 on the lower level roadway, at designated pickup locations.

At Midway, rideshare vehicles pick up passengers at designated pickup locations on the upper level of the airport’s terminal.

Requirements for Rideshare Drivers

Rideshare drivers picking up at airports are required to register with the Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA), undergo airport-specific training, and install additional identification signage on their vehicles. To pick-up passengers from the airports, the drivers must first enter into a designated staging area, and only upon receipt of a passenger request for a ride, can proceed to the airport terminals to pick-up passengers at designated areas.

The CDA Media Relations office number is (773) 686-3700. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
