2012-12-05 — /travelprnews.com/ — The Children’s Ark Project at University Hospital Limerick will get an early festive season gift after it has been selected as the worthy recipient of all proceeds from the upcoming free Christmas Music Celebration at Shannon Airport headlined by the Kilfenora Céilí Band.
The event, which will be hosted at the airport’s check-in area at 8 pm on this Friday night, December 7th, will be headlined by the Kilfenora Céilí Band. Supporting performers will be top Limerick comedian Karl Spain, emerging Clare trad group ‘Socks in the Frying Pan’ and the Silvermines Choir from North Tipperary. As if that wasn’t enough, a late addition to the line-up is gifted and award winning Ennis singer-songwriter Kate Purcell, who will deliver a special Christmas set on the night.
In addition to being treated to the entertainment feast on the night, the 800 or so attendance will have the opportunity to win any of a number of very attractive prizes on the night, including two flights to Chicago from Shannon next summer kindly donated by United Airlines to mark its new service to the ‘Windy City’, which commences in June.
While attendance at the eagerly awaited annual celebration is free – but by ticket only – it will provide a timely financial boost for the Children’s Ark Project at the Limerick Hospital, with all proceeds from the raffle and other donations on the night going towards the charity.
All tickets for the event have been snapped up but there remains huge demand and those who have already collected tickets but find they cannot attend are being urged to return them to the Shannon Airport Information Desk.
Announcing the charity, Shannon Airport Head of Operations and Services Mr Niall Maloney said that the Children’s Ark is an ideal recipient. “This event is a regional celebration to say thank-you to everyone from the region who supported Shannon during the year and we have a wonderful line-up of acts from across the region to match. It is only appropriate then that the charity we have chosen for proceeds from the event would be one that benefits the entire region.
“The Children’s Ark Project does amazing work looking after the needs of infants and children from Limerick, Clare and Tipperary admitted to the University Hospital, Limerick and we are delighted to be able to support them through our event.”
Said the Children’s Ark Founder Dr Roy Phillip: “We are delighted to be chosen by Shannon Airport as the recipient charity for proceeds from what everyone expects will be a wonderful night of entertainment.
“Our Paediatric High Dependency Unit (PHDU) is the first purpose-built unit of its kind developed outside of Dublin, looking after the critical care needs of infants and children in a child friendly environment closer to their home. We are constantly in need of funds to support and expand our services so this donation by Shannon Airport is greatly appreciated.’’
