
Charlotte Douglas International Airport Announces Etihad Airways’ New Direct Service to Abu Dhabi Starting in 2026

(PRESS RELEASE) CHARLOTTE, NC, 2025-May-16 — /Travel PR News/ — Charlotte Douglas International Airport announces that, beginning May 4, 2026, Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, will become the airport’s fourth international carrier. This marks a major expansion of CLT’s global connectivity.
Etihad will operate four weekly nonstop flights between Charlotte and Abu Dhabi (AUH), introducing the first-ever direct flight from North Carolina to the Middle East. The new route will not only enhance CLT’s network but also provide passengers with convenient access to Abu Dhabi, a key hub for business, culture, and tourism. Additionally, travelers from Charlotte will gain one-stop access to many destinations across Asia, the Indian Subcontinent, and the Middle East.
Etihad’s Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, featuring 303 seats in both Business and Economy classes, will service the route. This marks the first scheduled operation of a Boeing 787-9 at CLT, highlighting the significance of this new service. The aircraft will offer passengers the airline’s renowned amenities and award-winning service.

Tickets for the Charlotte–Abu Dhabi route are now available at etihad.com. Etihad Airways becomes the first international airline to begin service at CLT since 2018, when Volaris initiated nonstop flights to Guadalajara, Mexico.
International travel from Charlotte continues to grow, with a 13% increase in international passenger traffic in 2024, rising from 2.1 million in 2023 to 2.4 million. CLT currently offers service to 42 international destinations.
