CDA announces partial lane closures on the lower level roadways of Terminal 5 and the domestic terminals at O’Hare International Airport

CHICAGO, 2016-Apr-01 — /Travel PR News/ — The Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA) announces that partial lane closures will begin next week on the lower level roadways of Terminal 5 and the domestic terminals at O’Hare International Airport to accommodate improvement projects. Minimal traffic impacts are expected, however, the CDA cautions motorists and pedestrians to proceed carefully when traveling near the construction zones. Details on the lane closures and improvement projects are provided below.

O’Hare Terminal 5 Lower Level Roadway Construction
Beginning Monday, April 4 and for approximately the next three months, the CDA will perform concrete pavement removal and replacement in the three outermost lanes of the lower level roadway at O’Hare International Terminal 5.

In order to minimize traffic impacts to Terminal 5 patrons, the project will be implemented in three phases and most major construction activities will not be performed between noon and 6 p.m.

The work is expected to impact traffic on the lower level roadway, including taxicabs, shuttle buses and visitors picking up passengers from the terminal. Motorists should allow for extra travel time. Visitors picking up passengers are encouraged to utilize the O’Hare Cell Phone Lot on Bessie Coleman Dr. or to park in Lot D. Parking for the first 10 minutes is free and parking for one hour or less is $2.

In addition to the pavement reconstruction, ADA curb ramps and crossings at Terminal 5 will be reconstructed. Although the taxicab lane will not be reconstructed during this project, there may be some minimal traffic impact, during some construction stages, in the entry area of the cab lane.

Nightly Lane Closures on Lower Level Roadway of O’Hare Terminals 1, 2 and 3
Beginning Monday night, April 4, the two left lanes of the lower level roadway (Arrivals Level) at O’Hare International Airport Terminals 1, 2 and 3 will be closed periodically from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Lanes will be closed in small sections between Terminals 1 and 3, with only a single lane closed at Terminal 2. The lane closures will occur six nights per week, from Monday night through Sunday morning until May 17, 2016. The lane closures are necessary for cleaning and painting of the Airport Transit System (ATS) structure.

Motorists traveling to O’Hare Terminals 1, 2 or 3 during these hours are advised to proceed with caution and allow extra travel time.

The CDA Media Relations office number is (773) 686-3700. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
