Cape Town, South Africa, 2013-12-13 — /travelprnews.com/ — As part of caring for our communities, Airports Company South Africa, Cape Town International Airport has been involved in various initiatives to spread the Christmas cheer to all those who are in need.
The airport recently hosted a party for 200 children from an informal settlement near the airport. As it is festive season it is vital for these children to feel acknowledged and celebrated. “The outing is more personalised and is directed purely at the children of Freedom Farm. The aim of this outing is to try and provide the children of the informal settlement a fun and memorable experience or a day out to events and places that they wouldn’t normally go to under normal circumstances,” said Deborah Francis, acting Communications Manager for Cape Town International Airport. The kids went home with a party pack filled with goodies as well as an educational gift pack which will come in handy when the school year starts in 2014.
Another initiative which the airport was involved in is the KFM’s Christmas wish campaign. Through this partnership with the radio station, the airport is helping a mother whose daughter was diagnosed with meningitis at the tender age of three years old. Unfortunately her house does not include a bathroom so she has to carry her daughter to a bathroom at the end of the garden when required. The airport will be building a disability friendly bathroom which will provide easy access to and from the house through ramps. “We will be making a donation of R 50 000 to help improve the life of the mother and her daughter,” added Francis.
The airport is also partnering with KFM’s annual Truck of Love initiative. This is the third year that the airport has been involved in this initiative. “This year we are giving 52 presents to children from ST Michael’s all-girls school; Margaret’s House all boys school and St Georges – All Girls. These schools, located in the southern suburbs function as orphanages and safe houses for abandoned children and teenagers. Youth development is a key pillar for Corporate Social Investment. Over R 40 000 was donated towards this initiative to purchase gifts. Staff volunteered to wrap gifts and helped with the distribution of the gifts at each school.
“The airport continues to find ways to better the lives of those who are less privileged, by putting a smile on these children’s faces makes it all worth it,” added, Francis.
