(PRESS RELEASE) London, UK, 2024-Oct-31 — /Travel PR News/ — On October 30, 2024, British Airways proudly announced its return to Bangkok, marking its first flights to Thailand in over four years. The inaugural flight departed from London Gatwick at 21:15 local time on October 28, landing at Suvarnabhumi Airport the following day at 16:10. Passengers aboard the first flight were warmly welcomed with traditional dancers, floral garlands, and local gifts upon arrival.
Earlier this year, British Airways revealed plans to reinstate this popular route, which had been suspended since 2020. Initially, flights to Bangkok will operate three times a week, with plans to increase to five times per week in January and February 2025, and four times per week in March 2025. Travelers can choose from three classes of service: World Traveller (economy), World Traveller Plus (premium economy), and Club World (business class), with return fares starting at £718.
In addition, British Airways has enhanced its codeshare partnership with Bangkok Airways, providing customers with convenient connections to five popular holiday destinations. Travelers can now easily access the stunning beaches of Koh Samui and Phuket, explore the historic temples and picturesque mountain views of Chiang Mai, or venture to Cambodia’s vibrant capital, Phnom Penh, as well as the resort town of Siem Reap.
Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ Chief Planning and Strategy Officer, expressed enthusiasm about the route’s return, stating, “We understand that our customers have been eagerly awaiting the reopening of the Bangkok route, and we are excited to have it back on our global schedule. Bangkok not only offers a wealth of experiences for leisure travelers but also serves as a gateway to some of Southeast Asia’s most beautiful destinations, making these more accessible to the UK market.”
Ms. Sadudee Sangnil, Director for the UK, Ireland, and South Africa at the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), also welcomed British Airways back to Thailand, noting, “The timing is perfect as we enter the peak season. The addition of these flights allows us to welcome more visitors seeking winter sun to experience Thailand’s beauty, warmth, and rich culture. Connectivity to popular locations like Phuket is fantastic, and we encourage visitors to explore local communities, national parks, and hidden beaches. Chiang Mai, which has recently recovered from flooding, is also ready to welcome travelers again.”
Looking ahead, British Airways plans to resume flights to Kuala Lumpur starting April 1, 2025, with daily service from London Heathrow. Additionally, next month, the airline will launch flights to Tromsø, Norway, from London Heathrow and to Ivalo, Lapland, from London Gatwick. British Airways currently operates flights to nearly 200 destinations across more than 60 countries worldwide.
