2012-12-07 — /travelprnews.com/ — The Hamburg-based B&L Group celebrated the topping-out ceremony for its most recent hotel project on 5 December 2012 by placing the traditional garland on the completed shell of the InterCityHotel Leipzig, which is scheduled to open in May 2013.
Following previous builds in Hamburg and Dresden, this represents the third establishment which B&L has realised for InterCityHotel GmbH, a 100% subsidiary of Steigenberger Hotels AG of Frankfurt. The group has already committed to constructing its fourth InterCityHotel, an agreement to this effect having been concluded at the Hamburg Trade Fair.
The new hotel is located on Tröndlinring within the immediate vicinity of Leipzig Central Station opposite the new “Höfe am Brühl” Shopping Centre. It will boast 166 rooms, a conference area and a restaurant. Leipzig city centre is only a few minutes’ walk away.
The hotel site, which extends over an area of approximately 2,000 m² and was acquired in April 2011, had remained undeveloped following the removal of the ruins of the former Leipzig Stock Exchange in 1948. The digging of the building’s trench was delayed by some 6 weeks following the discovery of a 13th century clay jug amongst the former foundations of the Stock Exchange.
The hotel was designed by felsensteinprojekt ARCHITEKTEN of Hamburg and nps tchoban voss ARCHITEKTEN of Dresden. Four full storeys and two smaller top storeys are being constructed. The height of the building will correspond with the neighbouring “Old District Government Office”. The design of the textured and light coloured facade will feature a plinth in natural stone. W. Markgraf from Bayreuth will once again be bringing all his know-how to the table by acting as General Contractor for the B&L Group. Investment volume is approximately €15 million.
