Austrian joins ‘Ärzte an Bord’ programme of Lufthansa

2012-11-26 — / — The Austrian Airlines Group is to join the ‘Ärzte an Bord’ (‘Doctors on Board’) programme run by the Lufthansa Group. Doctors can register immediately, free of charge. Registration is rewarded with a credit of 5,000 premium miles and a pocket book of aviation medicine. In this way, the airlines want to improve their provision of emergency care in the air. The 800 doctors belonging to the ‘Doc on Board’ programme of Austrian Airlines, which expires at the end of 2012, will be given the chance to transfer their membership from the old programme to the new.

Extension of the programme means a fundamental benefit for Austrian Airlines’ passengers: the pool of flying doctors is being expanded throughout the Lufthansa Group.

The programme works as follows: the details of registered doctors are stored in a Miles & More database, together with their specialist training. This allows flight attendants to go to the doctor in the event of an emergency and request their help. Doctors also have liability insurance against claims for compensation.
