American Airlines Adds Year-Round Flights to Sun Valley and Santa Maria, Plus Expanded Winter Service

(IN SHORT) American Airlines is rolling out three permanent domestic routes—to Sun Valley (SUN) and Santa Maria (SMX)—and enhancing winter-season service to Fort Myers (RSW), Missoula (MSO), and Santa Fe (SAF). New SUN flights from Chicago and Phoenix begin December 18 on dual-class regional jets. Aspen gains nonstop service from Charlotte, and Missoula receives exclusive winter nonstop connections to Chicago. Santa Fe welcomes year-round flights from Los Angeles and seasonal service from Chicago, while Santa Maria enters American’s network with twice-daily Phoenix service starting October 15. Seasonal PHX–Fort Myers service operates over the holiday period. These expansions complement American’s new long-haul and international winter offerings, including routes to Hawaii, Australia, and Latin America. Tickets will be available June 30 on aa.com and the American app.

(PRESS RELEASE) FORT WORTH, TX, 2025-Jun-26 — /Travel PR News/ — American Airlines is enhancing its domestic network with three new year-round routes to Sun Valley, Idaho (SUN), and Santa Maria, California (SMX), plus expanded seasonal service to Fort Myers, Florida (RSW); Missoula, Montana (MSO); and Santa Fe, New Mexico (SAF). These additions, launching between October and December 2025, boost winter holiday travel options just as Americans are planning ski getaways, desert explorations, and beach retreats.

Come December 18, travelers can fly daily to Sun Valley—America’s premier winter-sports destination—from both Chicago O’Hare (ORD) and Phoenix (PHX). These connections link more than 150 cities nationwide to SUN on dual-class regional jets, offering a choice of Main Cabin or first-class comfort.

Ski enthusiasts will also gain new nonstop access to Aspen, Colorado (ASE) from Charlotte Douglas (CLT), reinforcing American’s position as the carrier with the widest U.S. reach to ASE. Additionally, the airline’s only nonstop winter service between Missoula and Chicago enhances Midwest access to Montana’s mountain lodges.

In the Southwest, American—already the largest airline serving Santa Fe—will inaugurate daily flights from ORD and Los Angeles (LAX), seamlessly complementing existing Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) and PHX service. October 6 marks the start of year-round LAX–SAF flights, and on October 15, American will become the sole global carrier at Santa Maria (SMX) with two daily departures from PHX. Visitors can look forward to Central Coast attractions like Santa Maria–style barbecue and nearby vineyards.

For sun-seekers, American will operate seasonal nonstop service between PHX and Fort Myers from November 20 to December 3 and again December 18 to January 6. Plus, the winter schedule already features new long-haul routes—from ORD to Honolulu (HNL), DFW to Kona (KOA), and LAX to Brisbane (BNE)—and ramped-up frequencies such as four daily Miami–Buenos Aires (MIA–EZE) flights. The airline will also launch its inaugural service to Puerto Escondido (PXM) and debut four new routes to Punta Cana (PUJ).

Tickets go on sale June 30 via aa.com and the American mobile app.
