BRISTOL, UK, 2016-Apr-14 — /Travel PR News/ — Aircraft manufacturer Airbus teamed up with aviation charity fly2help and Bristol Airport to host a very special action packed day of flight for local young people and their families.
The young people, all aged four to 16, came from charities Reach, CLIC Sargent and Ronald McDonald House Bristol. They spent the day with pilots, explored light aircraft and fire-fighting equipment with the airport’s fire and safety team, went in high-powered rally cars and took part in a range of flight-related interactivities with the help of Airbus graduates.
The guests also met inspirational Airbus employee, Andy Lewis, who himself overcame adversity when he lost a limb in a road traffic accident and has since gained his private pilot’s licence and is a hopeful to complete in the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games. Andy spent time with the young people and even showed them his different prosthetic limbs!
At the end of the day, Andy said: “Wow! What a day! It made me so proud to be part of such an amazing day and to meet some awesome, brave and inspirational children and their families.”
One of the young people, Jedd Wiltshire, a beneficiary of the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people, CLIC Sargent, celebrated his 16th birthday at Air Smiles Day. His mum Wendy said: “We would like to thank everyone involved for making things feel normal for a day and putting the biggest smile I have seen in a long on Jedd’s face – the day has created wonderful memories and stories of a milestone we did not think we would see.”
