airberlin’s seven international Area Managers now offer their personal travel tips for their favorite destinations

Berlin, Germany, 2013-10-01 — /travelprnews.com/ — The summer is already over but autumn and winter have a lot to offer for globetrotters as well. A short trip south is a way of prolonging the summer. Barcelona, Alicante, Rome or Abu Dhabi are ideal destinations for a long weekend. For anyone who prefers wintry conditions airberlin operates flights to the north to Stockholm, Oslo or Helsinki. But Chicago or New York are also worth visiting in the autumn and winter. With 151 destinations on offer, the choice is not so easy. airberlin’s seven international Area Managers are therefore offering their personal travel tips for their favorite destinations.

Susanna Sciacovelli, Area Manager Southern Europe, Rome
“Milan is an exciting city at any time of the year. In autumn, it is a delight to stroll around the boutiques in the neighbourhood of Brera. By the way, you get the best chocolate ice cream at the café “Chocolat”. For early evenings, “10 Corso Como”, a café, bookstore, and art hub is ideal before the Milan night life starts. If you want to try the typical Milanese cuisine, the “Trattoria Madonnina” offers a very traditional menu with regional wines. In my home city, Rome, many restaurants offer artichokes on the menu in autumn and winter, for example, served “alla Romana”, with parsley, mint and garlic. The area “Parioli” in Rome is mostly frequented by locals and has some of the best restaurants and bars in Rome. My favourite is the “Caminetto” and their artichoke a la “Giudia“.

Stella Warmuth, Area Manager Middle East, Asia Pacific & Africa, Berlin
“The best time to visit Abu Dhabi is in winter. The average temperature is around 22 degrees and with a flight time of about six hours you can even spend a long weekend there. The city offers something to suit everyone’s taste: a stroll through the oriental souq with its authentic shops and excellent restaurants, a ride on the fastest roller coaster in the world at “Ferrari World” or an action-packed jeep safari through the desert. After so much excitement, it’s wonderful to relax on one of the spectacular beaches. For example, the new “Saadiyat Beach”, which allows public access and is located just a few minutes by car from Abu Dhabi City.”

Jan Anderstedt, Area Manager Nordics, Stockholm
“While the Swedes like to fly to warmer climates during winter, many tourists from other parts of the world are attracted to Stockholm. In winter the city has a special charm and is beautifully illuminated with numerous lights. In spite of the cold, it’s worth taking a walk over the roof-tops of Stockholm: You have a fantastic view over the city on a guided “Roof-Top Hiking Tour”. And if that doesn’t satisfy your craving for heights, you can take a gondola up to 130 metres above sea level, to the top of the highest golf-ball shaped building in the world. Last but not least: this year the new Abba museum opened in Stockholm.”

Rogier de Jager, Area Manager Western Europe, Amsterdam
“I’m often in Paris on business. It’s a beautiful city that I like best of all in the autumn. Just a short walk from the Louvre you find the neighbourhood of “Le Marais” with its numerous cafés, bars, boutiques and galleries. It’s also the location of the oldest covered food market in Paris, “Le Marché des Enfants Rouges”, or “the market of the red children”, where a wide range of French delicacies are to be found. If you want to go out for a really good French meal, without it costing you a fortune, I would recommend the restaurant called “Chartier”. The French adore their aperitifs early in the evening. For that you should go to a bar such as “La Caravane”, where there are also bands playing music later on in the evening.”

Titus Johnson, VP Sales & Marketing The Americas , New York City
“New York – the city that never sleeps – whatever the season. Every visitor should experience the hustle and bustle of Times Square at least once. If you would like to take things a bit easier, then I recommend Central Park. Its contrasts are amazing from flat meadows to large boulders and lakes. The Highline is also a great place to walk and see Manhattan from an elevated stance. There’s always something going on in Manhattan, it’s great for live music and the width and breadth of its culinary choice never disappoints. Extraordinary experience: It’s an Oldie but a Goldie – The Empire State Building, North, East, South, West, the views are amazing, particularly mid afternoon on a clear sunny day.”

Mohammed Nasr, Area Manager Eastern Europe, Vienna
“I spend a lot of time travelling around Eastern Europe. Cities such as Budapest, Krakow, Warsaw, Moscow and St. Petersburg are always worth a visit. But the small “oblast” of Kaliningrad, with its long sandy beaches, is absolutely beautiful. I would definitely recommend a trip to Krakow, a town full of history and culture, where there are many young people. You get traditional Polish cuisine in “Polakowski”, which is ideal if you are hungry in the afternoon following a long walk around the city. In the evening you can eat really good steaks in a fantastic atmosphere at the “Pimiento Argentino Grill” in the district of Kasimierz, where you can wind up the evening in one of the numerous bars.”

Paul Verhagen, Area Manager Spain & Portugal, Palma de Mallorca
“Many holidaymakers are familiar with Mallorca and love it here. In spite of this, the island has many secrets that are worth discovering. For example, the Platja des Caragol. You have to walk for about 30 minutes to get there, but you are rewarded by a long, natural white sandy beach. But Mallorca is not just a place for sun, sand and sea. The capital town of Palma now offers many small designer and boutique hotels, such as the “Mision de San Miguel”. You can get excellent Spanish tapas and pinchos in the quaint little restaurant “Tast”, where tourists mix with the locals every evening. Afterwards you can go to the club “Tito’s” with a view over the harbour. Marlene Dietrich even danced there.”
