2013-05-07 — /travelprnews.com/ — With the optimization of its route network and the focus on well-established routes, airberlin was able to significantly increase capacity utilization in April 2013. Germany’s second-largest airline company was able to increase capacity utilization by 4.2 percentage points to 84.01 percent, and welcomed 2,481,959 passengers on board for the month of April.
Whereas in the context of its flight route optimization plan, airberlin reduced its available seat kilometers (ASK) by 13.8 percent to 4.37 billion, the revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) only decreased by 9.3 percent to 3.67 billion.
For the January to April period of the year 2013, airberlin increased capacity utilization by 3.1 percentage points in yearly comparison, to 85.13 percent, and welcomed a total of 8,401,009 passengers on board. The available seat kilometers totaled 15.52 billion and the revenue passenger kilometers amounted to 13.21 billion.
For 2013, airberlin has changed the way it calculates its capacity utilization. The capacity utilization calculation is now determined according to the sector standard, and the revenue passenger kilometers (RPK) are compared to the available seat kilometers (ASK). For the purpose of a yearly comparison, the capacity utilization for 2012 was likewise calculated anew.
