airberlin celebrates 1,000,000 check-ins via its iPhone app

2012-11-02 — /travelprnews.com/ — airberlin is delighted that a total of one million check-ins have now been made via its iPhone app. More than 500,000 passengers have already installed the airberlin iPhone app on their Smartphone. Daniel Haisch, Vice President e-commerce at airberlin, said: “We offer the option of online check-in via app from up to 30 hours before departure until shortly before take-off. Standard industry practice is from just 24 hours before departure. The 30-hour window we offer is an important factor, especially for business travellers who need to optimise the organisation of their journey.” Users who have registered on the app using their topbonus log-in details receive a push notification to inform them as soon as check-in is open. Passengers can thus ensure early on that they get the seat of their choice.

airberlin has also integrated Passbook into the up-coming version of the app, which will be released with the next update later this year. This will allow boarding passes, tickets cinema tickets and even coupons and customer reward cards to be managed on a single user interface. Stored information appears on the lock screen of the iPhone depending on the time and place; upon request push notifications are shown. Tickets and boarding passes should therefore open automatically as required on the iPhone lock screen and can be scanned directly from the device.

With its app, airberlin provides mobile support to its passengers throughout their entire journey: using the app, flights that are available can be filtered according to destination, date and various other categories, and can be booked directly. Using their topbonus log-in passengers can consult the current balance in their mileage account, and a summary of all the flights which they have booked or have previously taken is clearly shown. It is quick and easy for passengers to check in and select the seat they require. If passengers have checked in via the app and do not have any hold baggage to check in, they can go straight to the departure gate at the airport.
